Abstract/ Executive Summary:

MIS (Management Information Systems) is a general term for the computer systems in an enterprise that provide information about its business operations. It's also used to refer to the people who provide these systems. Typically, in a large corporation, "MIS" or the "MIS department" refers to a central or centrally-coordinated system of computer expertise and management, often including mainframe systems but also including by extension the corporation's entire network of computer resources. In the beginning, business computers were used for the practical business of computing the payroll and keeping track of accounts payable and receivable. As applications were developed that provided managers with information about sales, inventories, and other data that would help in managing the enterprise. BRRI used broadly in a number of contexts and includes (but is not limited to): decision support systems, resource and people management applications project management, and database retrieval applications. BRRI uses MIS in accounts and financial purpose issues which are well known as FMIS (Financial Management Information Systems).

Objectives:

To manage and maintain BRRI MIS. 2. To make data of 7 (Seven) module out of 9 (Nine) module helped by NATP phase. 3. To develop state-of-the-art MIS facilities.

Methodology:

MIS-ICT was in existence to gather and provide ICT sector management information to the MOA for policy and management decisions. With the present government of Bangladesh being in power from 2009, MIS-ICT has been assigned additional responsibility to implement the Digital Bangladesh vision of the BRRI for the ICT sector of the institution as a whole. With this new vision of the BRRI, the demand from MIS-ICT has been increased manifolds. BRRI’s commitments and seriousness have proved that a great leapfrog will occur in MIS-ICT through implementing the newer programs. The MIS-ICT of BRRI collects population information, personal data sheets (PDS) of all divisions, logistics statistics (viz. number and condition of vehicles and major equipment) etc. MIS software has developed by PHP/DOT NET software. These tools are used for front hand purpose. Other side the backhand database has developed by MySQL/SQL server. These tools are used for smooth operation. BRRI has its own ICT team is trying to manage and maintenance MIS software and data entry of every module is gradually increasing.

Achievement/Findings:

The MIS Software was developed under NATP. NATP phase-1 provided all equipment to setup MIS in BRRI. All users of BRRI are connected by internet and VPN (Virtual Private Network) with MIS server for using every module. Computers are also provided for using the module. Already router was established in the server room and VPN (Virtual Private Network) was also configured. Server switch and user switch is established in the server room. The data entry of the 7 (Seven) module out of 9 (Nine) module already has started in MIS Software. It is continuous process.
