Development of Water Repellent Finishing Process for Fabrics and Materials.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The research work was carried out at Chemical Processing Department of Bangladesh Jute Research Institute in 2009-2011 . One of the major draw backs of the jute is its high absorbance. So, Jute fabric shrinks and at the same time it is damage so quickly. For this reason we take this experiment by imparting water repellent properties to jute fabrics.Untreated union jute fabric were treated with some water proofing agents such as i) Ashahi Guard ii) Bit Guard iii) Micanate iv) Ramasit KGT v) Hydrophobol XAN vi)Phobotex FTC in different concentration (180gm/l, 200gm/l, 220gm/l and 260gm/l). In addition two different chemicals (I-Perapret VAS, II-Fixapret)has been used along with above mentioned chemicals into water proofing process.Treated union fabrics were tested which is spray test and wetability tast. In both test, Ramasit KGT gives the best result among six chemicals. Ramasit KGT mixed with perapret VAS was treated with fabric, gave the water repellent rating value 90 in 260gm/l. Jute fabric treated with ramasit KGT at 260gm/l concentration gives the best results for all water repellent treated samples.

i). To developed the finishing technologies for jute fabrics and materials. ii) To increase the diversified uses of jute products. iii) To develop entrepreneurship and transfer of technology.

Methodology:

Union jute fabric was collected. Untreated union jute fabric were treated with some water proofing agents such as i) Ashahi Guard ii) Bit Guard iii) Micanate iv) Ramasit KGT v) Hydrophobol XAN vi)Phobotex FTC in different concentration (180gm/l, 200gm/l, 220gm/l and 260gm/l). Achievement/Findings:

In spray test, Ramasit KGT gives the best result among six chemicals.Ramasit KGT mixed with perapret VAS was treated with fabric, gave the water repellent rating value 90 in 260gm/l.Jute fabric treated with ramasit KGT at 260gm/l concentration gives the best results for all treated sample.It was also found that moisture absorbance condition is the lowest position.it means water repellent effect is assessed usually very slight wetting of the surface when jute fabric treated with ramasit KGT under 260gm/l concentration.
