Performance Evaluation of Dong Feng-12 Power Tiller

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

For upland condition treatment T₃ (tilling tow pass of rotary tiller with backward curved blades operating at 3rd low forward speed and with the seat taken off) was found to be the best. However, for the lowland condition T₇ (two passes and one pas each by rotary tiller with backward curved blades and left-right 3rd low forward speed with the operator riding) performed better. The riding installation of this power tiller is an added advantage. The depth of penetration and field capacities are comparable to the power tiller similar size (HP range) available in the country. In addition this power tiller, like others available in the market, can be used as a stationary power station for small scale irrigation and drainage, spraying, grain threshing flour milling, fodder cutting, etc.

Methodology:

Progati industries Ltd. handed over to BRRI a chiness power Tiller (Dong Feng-12) for its performance evaluation. The test was conducted in loamy soil. Dong Feng-12 power Tiller was used with mold board plow and rotavator with left right bent treatments combining adjustments and operations with this tiller (replicated twice) were used, six under upland condition (T₁,- T₆) and two (T₇,and T₈) under lowland condition

Achievement/Findings:

The Chinese origin DONG FENG-12 (supplied by Progoti) power tiller was found to be most suitable for tillage operation in upland by backward curved rotary blades operating at 3rd low forward speed, without the riding attachment. But, in a lowland condition it performed better with riding attachment at the same speed and with the same blades. The riding installation of this power tiller is an added advantage. The depth of penetration (110 cm) and field capacity (0.05 ha/hr) are comparable to the power tillers of smaller size (HP) available in the country. There was no major break down of the machine during the tests and major malfunction of the components were experienced. Dong Fong-12 power tiller can be recommended for use in Bangladesh.
