The study was conducted in Satkhirat to identify and document the adoption and constraints (environmental, agronomic, economic and soci-cultural) to adopt of the introduced technology to and evaluate impacts of introduced salt-tolerant varieties in the rice-based farming systems on livelihood changes (Productivity improvement, profitability etc).In order to generate required data structured questionnaire was used. Collected data was scrutinized, compiled and analyzed by using MS-excels and SPSS programs. Mainly descriptive statistics was used for analyzing the data. In delta areas of Satkhira, in Boro season, 80 and 20% of the participant and non participant farmers, respectively were adopted saline tolerant BRRI dhan47 after intervention of the project activities. In wet season, most of the sample farmers (85% participant and 92% non-participant) were adopting LVs early practice. A contrasting picture appeared under current practice; i.e. nearly 96% farmers (both participant and non participant) adopted modern varieties in the T.Aman season. Farmers obtained higher yield and return by growing BRRI dhan47 in the dry seasons. However, farmers faced some constraints in adopting BRRI dhan47, such as shattering problem, coarse grain and long duration variety etc. than BRRI dhan28. Respondents suggested that by harvesting at 80% maturity stage, shattering loss might be reduced to a greater extent. In general the household status and rice supply availability improved in 100% cases after the implementation of project activity. Socioeconomic indicators such as access to school and communication facilities, rice income per hectare, purchasing ability, purchase of farm implements, purchase of land, ability of women to be out spoken etc, improved by 100%. As a whole, there has been significant impact of the adoption of salt-tolerant technology on farmers’ economic and social improvement.

This study was conducted in Satkhira district which represents the saline prone ecology in Bangladesh. Sample survey was carried out to generate the required farm level data. BRRI developed moderately salt tolerant variety namely BRRI dhan 47 was given to seventy rice farmers under six upazillas of Satkhira. Upazillas are namely Shyamnagar, Kaligonj, Tala, Patkelghata and Satkhira sadar. Both technology users (i.e participant) and non users (i.e non participant) were taken under this study. A total of 110 sample farmers (54 participant and 56 non participant) were selected for collecting necessary data. In order to generate required data structured questionnaire was used. Collected data was scrutinized, compiled and analyzed by using MS-excels and SPSS programs. Mainly descriptive statistics was used for analyzing the data.
