Effect of Fastmix Ew(butachlor) for Weed Supperession in Rice.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

This study was conducted at BRRI farm, Gazipur and at Burichang of Comilla district. Objective of this study was to observe its (Fastmix EW) weed control efficiency, impact on plant growth and yield of BRRI dhan28. Bio efficacy data of Fastmix EW @ 750 ml acre^-1 against weed suppression indicated that at BRRI farm, Gazipur, 83% control of Scirpus maritimus, 84% control of Marsilea minuta, 87% control of Echinochloa crusgalli, and 81% control of Monochoria vaginalis were achieved. Bio efficacy data of Comilla showed that, 83% control of Scirpus maritimus, 72% control of Lindernia anagallis, 87% control of Echinochloa crusgalli, and 81% control of Monochoria vaginalis, 80% control of Alternenthera Phyloxeroides were achieved by Fastmix EW @ 750 ml acre-1.

Objectives:

To observe its (Fastmix EW) weed control efficiency, impact on plant growth and yield of BRRI dhan28.

Methodology:

This study was conducted at BRRI farm, Gazipur and at Burichang of Comilla district. The treatment were i) Fastmix EW @ 500 ml ha^-1 ii) Fastmix EW @ 750 ml ha^-1 iii) Fastmix EW @ 1000 ml ha^-1 iv) MRifit 500 EC @ 1000 ml ha^-1 v) weed free and vi) control (un weeded). MRifit 500 EC @ 1000 ml ha^-1 was used to compare the new herbicide. The experiment was laid out in RCB design with 3 replications. Forty days old seedlings of BRRI dhan28 were transplanted on 21th January 2005 at 20 x 20 cm spacing with 2 seedling hill^-1 at BRRI farm Gazipur during 27th January, 2005 at Burichang, Comilla with same spacing and design. Fertilizer was applied following BRRI recommended dose. Herbicides were sprayed at 3 days after transplanting with 2 inches standing water. In weed free treatment, the plots were kept weed free up to 50 days after transplanting (DAT). Weed control efficiency was calculated using weed dry matter weight data. Other operations were done as when necessary.

Achievement/Findings:

In Gazipur, weed free plot gave the highest grain yield (5.88 t/ha) which was statistically similar with other treatments. The lowest grain yield was obtained from un weeded plot (3.37 t ha^-1). In Comilla similar trend of grain yield was found but grain yield was little lower than Gazipur Region. From the study it is concluded that Fastmix EW @ 750 ml acre^-1 controlled weed effectively and produced optimum grain yield in both Gazipur and Comilla region in Boro, 05, season. No plant injury was observed during the crop growing period due to the application Fastmix EW @ 750 ml acre^-1.
