Performance of Hunter 500ec (pretilachlor) for Weed Supperession in Rice.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The study was conducted at BRRI, Gazipur. Objective of this study was to observe its (Hunter 500EC) weed control efficiency, impact on plant growth and yield of BR26. Bio efficacy data of Hunter 500EC @ 1.0 Lit ha^-1 against weed suppression indicated that 90% control of Scirpus maritimus, 85% control of Marsilea minuta, 81% control of Echinochloa crusgalli, and 79% control of Monochoria vaginalis and 81% control of Cyperus difformis were achieved. No significant effect on plant height due to different doses of herbicide but little bit higher plant height observed in weed free plot. Herbicide treatment significantly influenced on tiller production, panicle production, grain per panicle and grain.The highest tiller m?² (297.00) was observed from in weed free plots which was statistically similar with other treated plot treated plot except Hunter 500EC @ .50 Lit ha^-1 and un weeded plot. The lowest tiller m² (165.00) was observed from un weeded plots. In case of Panicle per m² similar trend of result was observed. Number of filled grain panicle^-1 was statistically higher in weed free (83) treatment and the lowest grain panicle^-1 (54) was observed in un weeded plots.

Objectives:

To observe its (Hunter 500 EC) weed control efficiency, impact on plant growth and yield of BR26.

Methodology:

The study was conducted at BRRI, Gazipur. The treatment were i) Hunter 500EC @ .5 Lit ha^-1 ii) Hunter 500EC @ 1.0 Lit ha^-1 iii) Hunter 500EC @ 1.5 Lit ha^-1 iv) Corostar 25EC @ 2 Lit ha^-1 v) weed free and vi) control Coroster @ 2 L ha^-1 was used to compare the new herbicide. The experiment was laid out in RCB design with 3 replications. Thirty days old seedlings of BR26 were transplanted on 25th April 2005 at 20 x 20 cm spacing with 2 seedling hill^-1. Fertilizer was applied following BRRI recommended dose. Herbicides were sprayed at 3 days after transplanting. In weed free treatment, the plots were kept weed free up to 40 DAT. Weed control efficiency was calculated using weed dry matter weight data. Other operations were done as when necessary.

Achievement/Findings:

Considering grain yield, weed free plot gave the highest yield (4.21 t/ha) which statistically similar with other herbicide doses treated plot. The lowest grain panicle^-1 was observed from in un weeded plot (2.10 t/ha^-1).The result indicates that Hunter 500EC @ 1.0 Lit ha^-1 controlled weed effectively and produced optimum grain yield in T. Aus season
