An observational trial on lentil lines/varieties was conducted at the experimental stations of BARI at Joydebpur, Ishurdi and Jessore during rabi season of 2010-11 to find out the promising line(s) that performed well under early as well as late sown conditions. Ten lines and four varieties (T1 = BLX-01012-7, T2 = BLX-01014-9, T3 = BLX-99033-14, T4 = BLX-9903-11, T5 = ILI-5143, T6 = BLX-01013-1, T7 = BLX-99033-19, T8= X-95-3-167(4), T9 = BLX-98001-1, T10 = BLX-98002-3, T11 = BARI Mosur-3, T12 = BARI Mosur-4, T13 = BARI Mosur-5, T14 = BARI Mosur-6) were evaluated at four sowing dates (November 10, November 25, December 10 and December 25)at Joydebpur. Similar trials were conducted in the same year at RARS Ishurdi with four sowing dates (October 25, November 10, November 25 and December 13) and at RARS Jessore with five sowing dates (November 1, November 10, November 20, November 30 and December 10). However, same lentil lines/variety was used in all the locations. Sowing dates showed some phonological variations like flowering and pod development time in lentil lines/varieties. Among the lines, almost all of the lines performed well at November 10 and November 25 sowing irrespective of locations might be due to favorable temperature (min.9.50 to 10.0 oC and max. 20.0 to 24.0 oC) prevailed at flowering and pod development stages. The higher seed yields 2167 kg/ha were recoded in T11 (BARI Mosur-3) at November 10 and lower yield 417 kg/ha in T2 (BLX-01014-9) at December 25 sowing. Irrespective of sowing dates, BLX-99033-19(T7), BARI Mosur-3 (T11) and BLX-99033-14 (T3) at Joydebpur, BLX-98001(T9), BLX-01012-7 (T1), BLX-990333-14(T3) at Ishurdi and BLX-98002-3(T10), BLX-98001-1(T9) and BARI Musur-6 (T14) at Jessore performed well. All the lines/varieties performed well upto November 25 sowing and gave higher yield than those of other sowing dates.

To find out suitable line(s)/variety(ies)  tolerant to high temperature condition

An observational trial was conducted at the experiment stations of BARI at Joydebpur, Ishurdi and Jessore during rabi season of 2010-11. The soil of Joydebpur site belongs to the Chhiata Series under Agro-Ecological Zone-28 (AEZ-28). The soil was slightly clay loam and acidic in nature (pH 6.1). Crop received only 45 mm rainfall during growing periods at Joydebpur. The soil of Jessore was silty loam with pH value 7.5 and soil of Ihsurdi was sandilon with pH value 6.6. The unit plot size was 2 m x 3 m. Seeds of lentil lines/varieties viz. T1 = BLX-01012-7, T2 = BLX-01014-9, T3 = BLX-99033-14, T4 = BLX-9903-11, T5 = ILI-5143, T6 = BLX-01013-1, T7 = BLX-99033-19, T8= X-95-3-167(4), T9 = BLX-98001-1, T10 = BLX-98002-3, T11 = BARI Mosur-3, T12 = BARI Mosur-4, T13 = BARI Mosur-5, T14 = BARI Mosur-6 were sown on November 10, November 25, December 10 and December 25 at Joydebpur. Similar experiment were conducted in the same year at RARS Ishurdi with four sowing dates (October 25, November 10, November 25 and December 13) and at RARS Jessore with five sowing dates (November 1, November 10, November 20, November 30 and December 10). Fertilizers were applied at the rate of 24-40-45-24 kg/ha N, P, K and S as urea, triple super phosphate (TSP), muriate of potash (MOP) and gypsum. All fertilizers were used as basal. November 10, 25 and December 10, 25 sowings were harvested at 115-118, 102-105, 93-95 and 90-95 days after sowing (DAS) respectively. The yield component data was collected from 10 randomly selected plants prior to harvest from each plot. At harvest, the yield data was recorded plot wise and yield was calculated.

Almost all of the lines/varieties gave better yield upto November 25 sowing over the locations might be due to favorable temperatures (min.10.01 oC and max. 24.11 oC) prevailed at their flowering and pod development stages. However, irrespective of sowing dates the lines BLX-99033-19 (T7), BARI masur 3 (T11) and BLX-99033-14 (T3) performed well at Joydebpur while BLX-98001-1 (T9), BLX-01012-7 (T1), BLX990333-14 (T3) performed well at Ishurdi and BLX-98002-3 (T10), BLX-98001-1 (T9), BARI Mosur-6 (T14) performed well at Jessore location.
