Comparative Yield and Quality of Advanced Breeding Line of Corchorus Capsularis L. at Different Field Duration.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted at Manikganj and Naraynganj in 2004 to assess yield and quality of fibre of advanced breeding line BJC-2142 compared with CVE-3 (Control) by harvesting at field duration 70, 90 and 110 days. It was laid-out in RCBD with 3 replications and recommended cultivar newly released variety CVE-3 was used as control. Crops were sown on three different dates viz., 1 March, 15 March and 30 March regarded as treatment. Result showed that the highest yields were produced from CVE-3 at both the locations than BJC-2142. Fibre yield and all other attributes were showed significant increase due to increase of field duration of 70 to 110 days at both the locations. In terms of fibre quality, both the varieties provided 'A' grade quality of fibre when harvested at 70 & 90 DAS and grade was declined with the increase of field duration. Witness (%), lusture (%) of produced fibre were found higher harvested at 90 DAS and lowest was 110 DAS. Breaking twist was found higher for CVE-3 at both the locations with field duration of 110 days. The best quality fibre produced harvested at 90 DAS, but higher yield was produced harvested at 110 DAS.

Objectives:

Methodology:

The experiment was carried out at Jute Agriculture Experimental Station Manikganj and Sub Station Tarabo, Naraynganj in 2004 to assess yield and quality of fibre of advanced breeding line of Corchorus capsularis L. BJC-2142 was compared with CVE-3 (Control) by harvesting at different field duration of 70 to 110 days with 20 days interval. The experiment was laid-out in RCBD with three replications and recommended cultivar newly released variety CVE-3 was used as control. Crops were sown on three different dates viz., 1 March, 15 March and 30 March regarded as treatments. Unit plot size would be 3m x 3m. Space between plot to plot 50cm and between two replications and around the field 1m were maintained. Plants were harvested at assigned duration. Other cultural and intercultural operations were attended as per BJRI recommendation.
