Preparation of Low Cost Spawn Packets (vegetative Seed) for the Production of Oyster Mushroom (pleurotus Ostreatus) and Physico-chemical Analysis of the Produced Mushrooms

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Three sets of experiments were conducted to find out low cost substrates and their effects on approximate nutrients composition of oyster mushroom. In the experiment the rice straw supplemented with 10% cow dung (T₃) showed best performance in yield and yield attributes and this media produced mushroom contained the following nutrient and mineral contents : CHO (54.00%), protein (30.90%), crude fiber (24.03%), Lipid (3.34%). Among the minerals, nitrogen (5.02%), potassium (1.31%), calcium (23.50 mg/100 g), magnesium (18.70 mg/100 g ), sulfur (0.045 mg/100 g) and iron (44.20 mg/100 g) were obtained from the mushroom of the best media. In the second experiment, the yield and yield attributes were highest when saw dust supplemented with 10% cow dung and fruiting body formed. Similarly, in third experiment the best performance as substrate was shown by sugarcane bagasse supplemented with 30% wheat bran. These media were also cost effective than trial media.

Objectives:

Methodology:

The study considered by three sets of experiment each with five treatments with three replications. These experiments were also conducted by following the design called CRD (Completely Randomized Design). Experiment 1: Performance of different levels of cow dung as supplement with rice straw on the production of oyster mushroom and on their proximate composition Treatments used: E₁T₁: Rice straw supplemented with cow dung @ 0% (Control) . E₁T_2: Rice straw supplemented with cow dung @ 5%.E₁T₃: Rice straw supplemented with cow dung @ 10% E₁T_4: Rice straw supplemented with cow dung @ 15%. E₁T₅: Rice straw supplemented with cow dung @ 20% Experiment 2: Performance of different levels of cow dung as supplement with sawdust on the production of oyster mushroom and on their proximate composition Treatment used: . E₂T₁: Sawdust supplemented with cow dung @ 0% (Control).E₂T₂: Sawdust supplemented with cow dung @ 5% .
