Production of Enzymes from Selected Fungal and Bacterial Strains and Their Application on Jute Fabrics / Products for Quality Improvement

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Several litres of crude cellulase and xylanase enzyme complex was produced from the shake culture fermentation of Trichoderma konnigii by using cheap substrate, wheat bran and sugarcane bagasse.Fermentation with fresh, fine, brown type wheat bran yielded the highest xylanase and good CM Case activity in crude culture filtrate , i.e. 260XU/ ml and 1.25IU / ml ,respectively

Objectives:

To find out potential strains of microorganisms capable of producing highly active lignocellulolytic enzymes that can be used for the quality improvement of jute fibre, fabrics and other products

Methodology:

Samples rich in lignocellulosic wastes, damged wooden logs, jute sticks / heaps,mill slurry, industry effluents , decaying cellulosic materials were collected from various parts of Bangladesh. Standard and modified culture and isolation methods were followed. Microscopic and culture studies were performed as per requirement for final selection and characterization of the selected strains. Shake culture fermentation for assay of enzymatic activity was used.

The enzyme complex obtained from the wild strain of Trichoderma konnigii was found to act on jute fabrics and hessians giving a positive effect on their quality improvement
