Abstract/ Executive Summary:

To assess the health hazard property of jute and jute blended materials electrical resistance, parallel capacitance, di-electric constant were measured. The electrical resistance, parallel capacitance, dielectric constant and electrical conductivity of dried raw jute and bleached jute powder were measured by Schering bridge method at 15 degree C to 30 degree C over and a.c. bridge frequency range from 30 Hz to 3 GHz. The result showed that the electrical resistance Rp decreased with the increase of temperature and a.c. frequency. The capacitance showed higher values at lowest temperature of 20 degree C and became lower at 26 degree C. It again increased at the highest temperature like 100 degree C. the dielectric constant and a.c. electrical conductivity of untreated jute at 15 degree C were 2.144 and 1.04X10-9 mho/m at 1 KHz and 2.51 and 6.683X10-6 mho/m at 3 MHz of ac frequency.

Objectives:

1.Measurement of di-electric constant of jute and jute materials.
2.Measurement of capacitance, resistance of jute fiber powder.
3.Measurement of static charge generated on the fiber/fabrics.

Methodology:

White jute fiber was collected from Bangladesh Jute Mill Corporation. The jute sample was then bleached with 2 vol. hydrogen per oxide in presence of 0.1% NaOH and 0.5% Na₂SiO₃ .5 H₂O in the water for 24 hours. For dry bleached jute fiber, at first some specimens were taken into beaker and dried it by Philips in fraphil (150-230W) for 1 hour. About 8.2% moisture was found for bleached jute after heating at room temperature of 20±2 degree C and 65 ±2 % of relative humidity. The sample was cut in to pieces as small as possible and then was grinned by a grinding machine and thus the powder samples were prepared. Then the sample was placed into a cylindrical hole formed by the guard electrode and the counter electrode of the Schering Bridge. Then the measurements were done for bleached jute fiber at different ac frequencies and temperature (19, 22, 28 and 30 degree C). The measurement of the real part of dielectric constant was performed by measuring the capacitance of a capacitor when it was filled with jute powder at constant pressure. Then the capacitance was measured by using formula. The Capacitance Cp and Cp1 were measured at different temperature and Cp was calculated using the formula.

Achievement/Findings:

It was found that the dielectric constant and the parallel resistance increased with the increase of temperature and decreased with the increased of ac frequency of the bridge. But the electrical resistance increased with the increase of temperature and decreased with the increased in ac frequencies. In addition, all the parameter of both 80%-20% jute polyester and jute rayon blended sample showed higher values than those of jute sample. But the dielectric constant of 80%-20% jute polyester showed a lower value than those of 80-20% jute rayon. Di-electric constant of untreated jute were found higher than those of the treated jute and blended samples showed higher dielectric parameter than those of only jute sample.
