Production of Union Fabrics of Fancy Weave Design, Mockleno and Honeycomb Using Jute Yarn as Weft and Cotton Yarns as Warp.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

About 250 meter of Mockleno fabric was woven under this project. The width of the fabric was 70 inches. This is a new type of jute-cotton union fancy fabric. This fabric may be used for making car-seat cover, sofa cover etc. as its tensile strength is good both in warp way and weft way direction.

Objectives:

To know the natural fibre, cotton and jute cotton blended yarn to produce diversified products with fancy and decorative design to create new market potentiality through out the country and as-well-as in the foreign country.

Methodology:

The experimental fabric was woven in the weaving department of mechanical processing division, BJRI. A warp beam was prepared with 20/2s cotton yarn which is collected from local market. Then with this warp beam drawing and denting is performed in 6 Head Shafts as per Mockleno weave design. Then the fabric is woven on PICANOL GTX plus double rapier loom. 12 lbs/spy jute blended colored yarn were used as weft. The fabric properties from the test specimen such as stiffness, Tensile strength, thickness, weight, abrasion resistance etc. were determined in Textile Physics Division of BJRI as per standard method. Stiffness and flexural rigidity: Stiffness of a fabric is a measure of resistance to blending of a strip of cloth of unit width bent into unit curvature in absence of any tension. A strip of cloth (6 inch x 1 inch) was cut to the size of the template of the tester as slid in a direction parallel to its length, so that its end was projected from the edge of the horizontal platform of the tester. The length of the overhang cloth was measured when the tip of the test specimen was depressed under its own weight to the point where the lines joining the tip of the horizontal plat form make an angle of 41.5 degree with horizontal plane.

Achievement/Findings:

Tensile strength of the Mockleno fabric in warp way is 49.13 Kg and 138.64 Kg for weft way. Abrasion resistance of the fabric is 1757 revolution to rupture the fabric. Stiffness of the fabric is 1.25 cm and 2.96 cm for warp way and weft way respectively. Another fancy fabric Honey-comb design will be woven under this project and its physico-mechanical properties will be also determined.
