Performance of Top 500 Ec (pretilachlor) for Weed Control in Rice.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The study was conducted at BRRI, Gazipur during Boro,2005 to observe its weed control efficiency,impact on plant growth and yield of BRRI dhan28. Bio efficacy data of Top 25EC @ L ha-1 against weed suppression indicated that 82% control of Scirpus maritimus, 86% control of Marsilea minuta, 80% control of Echinochloa crusgalli, and 84% control of Monochoria vaginalis were achieved. No significant effect on plant height due to different doses of herbicide but little bit higher plant height observed in weed free plot. Herbicide treatment significantly influenced on tiller production, panicle production, grain per panicle and grain. The highest tiller m² (388.00) was observed from in weed free plots which was statistically similar with other treated plot treated plot except Top 500 EC @ 0.5 L ha^-1 and un weeded plot. The lowest tiller m² (232.33) was observed from un weeded plots. In case of Panicle per m² similar trend of result was observed. Number of filled grain panicle^-1 was statistically higher in weed free (90) treatment and the lowest grain panicle^-1 (53) was observed in un weeded plots. Considering grain yield, weed free plot gave the highest yield (5.90 t/ha) which statistically similar with other herbicide doses treated plot. The lowest grain panicle^-1 was observed from in un weeded plot (3.44 t/ha^-1).

Objectives:

To observe its (Top 500 EC) weed control efficiency, impact on plant growth and yield of BR26.

Methodology:

The study was conducted at BRRI, Gazipur during Boro,2005. The treatment were i) Top 500 EC @ 0.5 L ha^-1 ii) Top 500 EC @ 1.0 L ha^-1 iii) Top 500 EC @ 1.5 L ha^-1 iv) Ronstar 25 EC @ 2.0 L ha^-1 v) weed free and vi) control. Ronstar @ 2.0 L ha^-1 was used to compare the new herbicide. The experiment was laid out in RCB design with 3 replications. Forty days old seedlings of BRRI dhan28 were transplanted on 27th January, 2005 at 20 x 20 cm spacing with 2 seedling hill^-1. Fertilizer was applied following BRRI recommended dose. Herbicides were sprayed at 4 days after transplanting. In weed free treatment, the plots were kept weed free up to 50 DAT. Weed control efficiency was calculated using weed dry matter weight data. Other operations were done as when necessary.

Achievement/Findings:

From the study it was found that Top 500 EC @ 1.0 L ha^-1 controlled weed effectively and produced optimum grain yield in Boro season.
