An experiment was conducted at TCRC, Joydebpur and Debigonj during 2009-10 to find out the optimum planting time for maximum yield with better quality of processing varieties Felsina and Asterix seed potato planted on November 15 gave the highest yield of 23.74 t/ha. Both the varieties regardless of planting times are good enough for preparing Chips and French fries.

To maximize production of potato for better utilization in the form of chips and French fries

The experiment was conducted at TCRC, Joydebpur and Debigonj during 2009-10 Rabi season. Two factors were considered in the study. Factor A-Planting time (T1 = Oct. 30, T2 = Nov. 15 and T3 = Nov. 30 and Factor B-Verities (V1 = Asterix and V2 = Felsina). Unit plot size was 3.0 x 3.0 m. The study was laid out in factorial RCB design with 4 replications. Whole tubers of varieties Felsina and Asterix were planted with a spacing of 60 cm x 25 cm. Fertilizers were applied as per TCRC recommendation. Intercultural operations were done as per necessity. The crop was harvested at 90 days after planting.

From the above discussion it may be concluded that 15th November is the optimum time for potato plantation. Between the two varieties Felsina showed better performance at Gazipur but Asterix at Debigonj in relation to yield, but both varieties produced better quality of French fries and chips. Two varieties showed better results separately in two locations, which is contradictory and hence the experiments need to be conducted again.
