A Study on Performance of Intersecting Gilling Machine of Flax Line in Traditional Spinning System.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Intersecting gilling machine normally used in flax line but in this study it is used in traditional jute spinning for processing of jute fibre to produce regular and fine jute yarn with higher productivity. In this experiment, tensile strength, quality ratio, co-efficient of variation of produced yarns from two different processes was determined. From this study, it was noted that physical properties of produced sliver and yarn shows better result through Intersecting gilling machine process.

Objectives:

In the spinning Mill, there are traditional jute spinning for processing of jute fibre. Now BJRI is going to introduce Intersecting gilling machines in jute fibre process to produce regular and fine jute yarn with higher productivity and quality. Sliver of conventional jute processing system will be passing though the intersecting gilling machine for producing finer count jute yarn. Productivity of intersecting gilling and quality of produced yarn will assessed. Through an extensive study a conclusion will be made whether the intersecting gilling is suitable in jute spinning or not.

Methodology:

Jute fibres of BWD grade were selected as raw material for this experiment. Jute fibre was piled with the application of 25% normal emulsion and kept for 48 hours for maturation. The entire piled jute fibre was processed through breaker card, finisher card, 1st drawing and 2nd drawing machine. Then the 2nd drawing slivers were divided into two sections. One section of sliver was processed through 3rd drawing machine and spinning machine to produce 7.5 lbs/spy yarns. Another section of sliver was processed through Intersecting gilling machine and spinning machine to produce 7.5 lbs/spy yarn. Sliver of different machines i.e. 3rd drawing and Intersecting machine were observed. Finally the spun yarns were tested as per standard method.

Achievement/Findings:

From the study yarn produced from two different processes, it was observed that yarn produced from Intersecting gilling machine sliver shows better result. The 3rd drawing sliver and Intersecting gilling machine sliver’s CV% were 2.86% and 1.06% respectively which indicates the second sliver was more uniform than first one. Intersecting gilling machine normally used in flax line but in this study it used in traditional jute spinning for processing of jute fibre to produce regular and fine jute yarn with higher productivity. It is observed that, textile properties of produced yarn like coefficient of variation (CV%), tensile strength, quality ratio of jute yarn by using Intersecting gilling and conventional Spinning machines provide desired quality of the fine jute yarn. It was observed that, 8.09 lbs/spy jute yarn produced from BWD jute by using 6:1 doubling of Intersecting gilling machine (GN4) and spun through Hessian spinning machine and quality ratio was found 90.95%. On the other hand, 8.19 lbs/spy jute yarn produced from the same grade jute by using the 3:1 doubling of traditional 3rd drawing machine and spun through Hessian spinning machine and quality ratio was found 82.36%. From the above discussion on textile properties of produced yarn it is concluded that introduction of intersecting gilling machine has bright prospect in jute spinning and the machine may be used in production of all jute yarn as well as blended yarn also.
