Performance Testing of Cropping Pattern Involving Late Jute Seed Crop

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The agro-economic performance a new FA pattern Jute-Late Jute seed + Coriander-Onion have been tested at Manikganj during 2012-13. In FA pattern, production of jute was recorded 3094 kg per hectare and received gross margin of Tk. 22715 with variable cost of Tk. 46,876 per hectare. Jute under FA management obtained 21.30% higher yield investing only 5% less cost and generated 61.89% more gross margin. In case of jute seed crop, jute seed + coriander was recorded 560 kg jute seed and 1420 kg coriander leaves per hectare and received gross margin of Tk. 21,300 with variable cost of Tk. 80,300 per hectare. In farmer’s pattern obtained 3690 kg of rice with gross margin of Tk 14,427 investing Tk. 51,200 per hectare. In case of FA pattern production of Onion was recorded 8521 kg/ha and received gross margin of Tk. 87,695 with variable cost of Tk. 1,25,330 per hectare respectably, where as in farmer’s pattern land remain fallow during that period.

Objectives:

i) To develop appropriate cropping pattern involving late jute seed crop and winter crop for different AEZ.

ii) To increase cropping intensity and income of the farmers through inclusion of late jute seed crop in the cropping pattern at farm level.

Pattern to be tested: Jute- Jute Seed+Coriander-Onion (to be tested at on-station and on-farm level). Land type: High/Medium high Design: RCBD, Replication: 3-5. Plot size: 300-1000 sq. meter. Variety: F pattern: Farmer's choice. FI/FA pattern: Improved variety Date of sowing: F Pattern: Farmers choice. FI/FA pattern: Recommended time. Seed rate (kg/ha): F pattern: Farmers' choice, FI/FA pattern: Recom. doses Fertilizer rate: F pattern: Farmers choice, FI/FA pattern: Recommended dose. Pest control: F pattern: Farmers, FI/FA: Recommended dose. Date of harvest: F pattern: Farmers choice, FI/FA pattern: Recommended time.

During 2012-13, a new FA pattern Jute-Late Jute seed + Coriander-Onion have been tested at Manikganj. The FA pattern incorporated late jute with improved management. The report contains the agro-economic performance under FA and F patterns (Table 5). Following improved management in FA pattern, production of jute was recorded 3094 kg per hectare and received gross margin of Tk. 22715 with variable cost of Tk. 46,876 per hectare. Farmers obtained 2435 kg of jute with gross margin of Tk. 8,655 investing Tk.77,910 per hectare. Jute under FA management obtained 21.30% higher yield investing only 5% less cost and generated 61.89% more gross margin. Thus jute in FA pattern performed well in terms of higher yield and return to investment. In FA pattern incase of jute seed crop, jute seed + coriander was recorded 560 kg jute seed and 1420 kg coriander leaves per hectare and received gross margin of Tk. 21,300 with variable cost of Tk. 80,300 per hectare. In farmer’s pattern obtained 3690 kg of rice with gross margin of Tk 14,427 investing Tk. 51,200 per hectare. Jute seed + coriander under FA pattern obtained 35% higher gross return. Incase of FA pattern production of Onion was recorded 8521 kg/ha and received gross margin of Tk. 87,695 with variable cost of Tk. 1,25,330 per hectare respectably, where as in farmer’s pattern land remain fallow during that period.
