Cultural and Chemical Control of Cercospora Leaf Spot of Mungbean

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The lowest percent disease index (PDI) was(40.43) in Tilt 250EC treated plot followed by Bavistin 50 WP (52.10). Tilt 250 EC performed the best among the treatments excepting 1000 seed weight where it was statistically similar with sanitation and Bavistin 50 WP.

Objectives:

To control Cercospora leaf spot of mungbean

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at Regional Agricultural Research Station. Rahmatpur, Barisal during rabi 2006-2007. The experiment was laid out in a well-prepared land. The design was RCB having 3 replications. The variety used was BARI mung-5. There were 8 treatments namely Tilt 250 EC @ 0.05%, Bavistin @ 0.15%, Botanical (Neem leaf extract 10 ml/litre water), Time sowing (30 January), NPK (40-60-80 kg/ha), Sanitation, Soil amendment (Formaline) and one control. Five sprays were given at an interval of 15 days while the first one was applied just at the appearance first disease symptom. Disease data were recorded before every spray using 0-5 rating scale which developed by Mehta and Mondal (1978) as follows 0 = No infection 1 = 10% leaf area infection 2 = 11-30% leaf area infection 3 = 31-50% leaf area infection 4 = 51-70 % leaf area infection 5 = 71% and above leaf area infection Percent disease index (PDI) was computed from the final data. The data was analyzed statistically for DMRT (Zaman et al., 1982). Percent disease index (PDI) was computed according to the formula described by Krisna Prasad et al., (1979) as follows Category no. x no. of leaves in category PDI = X 100 Total no. of leaves counted x maximum possible diseases category

Achievement/Findings:

The percent disease index (PDI) was the lowest (40.43) in Tilt 250EC treated plot followed by Bavistin 50 WP (52.10). All treatments had significant effect over the control in respect of PDI. In respect of yield and yield attributes, Tilt 250 EC performed the best among the treatments excepting 1000 seed weight where it was statistically similar with Sanitation and Bavistin 50 WP.
