Effect of Plant Age on the Woolen and Textile Parameters of White Jute.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A field experiment was conducted with deshi jute variety CVL-1 in Rangpur and obtained fibres of five different ages to study their suitability for the production of different diversified jute products.

Objectives:

To find out cost effective, most desired parameters of the fibre such as plat age suitable for the production of different jute products.

Methodology:

A field experiment was conducted in the Jute Research Regional Station, Rangpur for obtaining required quantity of raw jute fibre of different ages. A white jute standard variety CVL-1 was used with 5 treatments (age of the plant: 60, 75, 90, 105 and 120 days) in 4 replications using Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD). The seeds of the variety CVL-1 were sown in 12 March, 2009. All recommended cultural practices were employed up to harvest.

Achievement/Findings:

The result presented that all the parameters such as green weight with or without leaves, plant height and basal diameter, days required for retting and finally the fibre yield of 100 plants well maintained a positive trend with the advancement of plant age. This may happen due to progress of maturity of the jute plants.
