Hybridization Among the Selected Genotypes of Tossa Jute .

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment were performed at Greenhouse premises BJRI,Dhaka in 2011.The tossa jute namely O-9897,BJRI Tossa pat-4, BJRI Tossa pat-5 and O-3820,OM1MG1,JRO-524,Acc-632,Acc-4311,Acc-1979,Acc-3726,Acc-3499,Acc-1532,Acc-1359,Acc-5295 and C.Incisifolius were used as parent materials and sown on September 2011.There are several crosses (111) were made in all possible combinations.only few (14) successful pods were obtained from the crosses.Weather was not favorable for successful pod formation,so the rate of succuss is low. C.Incisifolius is a serated type parent and were used with other high yielding varieties but having no F1 seeds.the success of cross depends on compatibility of the parents.BJRI tossa pat-4 is a more compatible parents .

Objectives:

.1.To create genetic variability,

2.To combine different characters into a same parent

3.To create recombinant types for accumulating desirable genes into a one offspring

Methodology:

Fifteen genotypes including four cultivated varieties of tossa jute namely O-9897,BJRI Tossa pat-4, BJRI Tossa pat-5 and O-3820,OM1MG1,JRO-524,Acc-632,Acc-4311,Acc-1979,Acc-3726,Acc-3499,Acc-1532,Acc-1359,Acc-5295 and C.Incisifolius were used as parent materials and sown on September 2011.There are three same sets of parents were sown fifteen days intervals for ensuring maximum syncronization.Recommended intercultural and Agronomic were done for raising the parental materials.At afternoon, the un-opend but probably mature flowers were emasculated and bagged separately.Next morning,the emasculated flowers were pollinated by desired parent and tagging then bagging.The developed hybrids pods were maintained as F1 and next year conformation test.

Achievement/Findings:

There are one hundred and eleven crosses were made in all possible combinations.Only fourteen successful pods were obtained from the crosses which are desired type.
