Efficacy of Fungicides in Controlling Powdery Mildew and Rust of Garden Pea

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Higher pod yield (10.34 t/ha) and minimum powdery mildew (21.33) and rust (33.33) PDI of garden pea was recorded from Sedozole 5 EC sprayed plots.The highest powdery mildew (66.67) and rust (84.64) PDI and the lowest pod yield (6.49t/ha) were recorded from control plot. Sedozole and Conza were the best fungicides for controlling both powdery mildew and rust diseases and increased pod yield of garden pea.

Objectives:

To test efficacy of some new fungicides in controlling disease, specially powdery mildew and rust of garden pea.

Methodology:

The study of the efficacy of eight different fungicides was tested against powdery mildew and rust diseases of garden pea at RARS Ishurdi, Pabna during rabi season of 2006-2007. The design of experiment was RCBD with 3 replications. The unit plots size 3m x 2.5m and seeds were sowing on 15.11.06. The spacing was 30 cm x 15 cm .The crop was allowed to grow under natural infection. Three sprays were done on 07.02.07, 20.02.07 and 26.02.07. The plots were irrigated at 2 times. The data were recorded from randomly selected 10 plants/ plot. Data recording started from just before 1st spray of fungicide 07.02.07. Percent diseases Index (PDI), pod yield were recorded. For both diseases the scale was: 0 = Leaf free from infection, 2 = 1-5% leafs are infected, 3 = 6-20% leafs are infected, 4 = 41-70% leafs are infected, 5 = 70% leaves are infected. Only the final disease data were converted into percent disease index (PDI) suggested by Dr. Ronald Romero as fallows: PDI = Σ nb x 100 (N-1) t Where, n = No of plant in each grade, b = Grade, N = Number of grades med in the scale and t = Total number of plants recorded.

The highest powdery mildew (66.67) and rust (84.64) PDI and the lowest pod yield (6.49t/ha) were recorded from control plot.
