Determination of Dielectric Constant of Jute and Blended Products in Comparison with Cotton, Wool and Synthetics.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Jute fiber lies in the category of naturally occurring polymers which is abundantly available and the main industrial crop of Bangladesh. Dielectric materials are most generally used as ordinary insulator from a long period of time. But in the recent years, the other unique properties of dielectric materials have been increasingly adopted to the various fields of active and passive network systems. For this reason, jute fibers are selected to measure the dielectric constant at different frequencies. In this research work, dielectric constant was measured by Schering bridge method at different temperature and ac frequencies of the bridge in the physics Department of BJRI. After fabrication of the circuit is working to measure the dielectric constant of jute.

Objectives:

1.To design a circuit and construct a capacitor to measure the dielectric constant

2.To measure the dielectric constant of jute, wool and synthetics.

3.To increase the market potentiality of jute and jute products.

Methodology:

The measurement was done by using a self made capacitor in combination with a resistor and a signal generator in series. The circuit has been design with low input impedance and the capacitor has been made with two Aluminum foil having a gap of 0.5mm between the plates. Measurement of Ck was done by measuring of voltage across the resistance R and current through the capacitor. With varying known frequency in the specific equation dielectric constant was measured at room temperature and humidity condition during 1988-1992 in the physics department of BJRI.

Achievement/Findings:

Two parallel plate capacitors has been developed for the measurement of dielectric properties of jute and jute products. Using this method other scientists determined the dielectric constant of jute and treated jute fiber and fabrics and published their paper in the Bangladesh Journal of Science and Technology.
