Effect of Different New Fungicides in Controlling Early Blight of Tomato in Jessore

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted during 2012-2013 cropping season to evaluate eight new fungicides for controlling early blight of tomato at RARS Jessore. Rovral treatment reduced the disease severity & increased yield. The lowest number of infected fruit 5plant -1 (1.33); and the lowest weight of infected fruit 5 plant-1(0.12 kg ) and the highest yield (64.63 t ha^-1). Among the new fungicides, application of Bubly 72 WP, andMoltovin decreased the disease incidence and increase yield compared to untreated control.

Objectives:

To evaluate some new fungicides against early blight of tomato.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at RARS, Jessore during 2012-2013 in a RCB design with three replications. Unit plot was 2 m x 3.6 m with spacing of 40 cm x 60 cm. Four weeks old seedling of BARI Tomato 2 (Ratan) was used. Seedlings were transplanted on 11 December 2012. Recommended doses of chemical fertilizers were applied in the experimental plot. Intercultural operations such as irrigation, mulching, weeding, thinning were done as and when necessary. Eight new fungicide and rovral were used as treatment. The treatments were T₁=Moximate 72WP@2g/L,T₂= Tared 280SC @05ml L-1, T₃= Tarzet 72WP @ 2g L-1, T₄= Bubly 72WP @ 2g L-1,T₅=Moltovin @3ml L,-1,T₆=Fasal Gold @ 2g L-1, T₇=Hama 52.5 @ 2g L-1, T₈=Lotus 720 SL @105ml L,-1,T9=Rovral @2g L-1, T₁₀=Control. First spray was done after first appearance of the disease symptom. Four spray were done at 10 days interval. Disease severity was recorded 7 days after final spray using 0-5 scoring scale (Anon 1974) where 0= Diseased spot absent (HR), 1=1-10 spots/leaf (R), 2=11-25 spots/leaf (MR), 3=26-50 spots/leaf (MS), 4=51-75 spots/leaf (S), & 5=above 75 spots/leaf (HS).

Achievement/Findings:

The lowest PDI was observed from Rovral sprayed plot (22.67) which was statistically similar with Hama (25.67), Bubly 72wp (28) and Tared 280 SC (30.33) sprayed plot. The highest PDI was recorded from control plot (50.33). The number of healthy fruit 5 plant^-1 was the highest in Rovral treated plot (170) followed by Bubly 72 WP (156) and Moximate (130). In case of weight of healthy fruits/ 5 plant similar trend was also observed; the highest result obtained by Rovral (9.97 kg) followed by Bubly 72WP (9.77 kg) and Moximate (8.83 kg). The lowest fruit was obtained from control plot. The highest number of infected fruit/5plant was recorded from control plot. Rovral sprayed plot gave the lowest diseased (1.33) fruits 5plant^-1 (12 kg). The highest yield was obtained fromy Rovral treated plot (64.63 t ha^-1) and the lowest yield was recorded from control plot (39.15 t ha^-1).
