Ten potato varieties were evaluated against 100, 150 and 200mm NaCl concentrations. The average tuber yield of the potato varieties was 230.87g per plant under control treatment against 73.10g for 100mm, 44.45 g for 150 mm and 31.36 g for 2..mm Nacl. Varieties Ultra and Asterix were found have better salt tolerance than others.

To screen 10 potato genotypes against salinity levels.

Ten potato varieties namely, Akira, Remarka, V56, Dura, Voyager, V37, Rodio, P-93.314, Ultra and Astrix were included in this experiment. One 28-45 mm sized tuber was planted in a pot. Ten kg soil was used in each pot. Four levels of NaCl namely, To= Control (plain water), T1-100mm Nacl solution. T2= 150mm Nacl solution and T3=200mm NaCl solution were used. The experiment was set up in randomized complete block design replicated thrice. Each replication included three posts. Thus, in total, there were 10 variety x 4 NaCl levels x 3 rep x 3 rep x 3 unit/rep=360 pots. The tubers were planted on 4 December, 2004. The pot was irrigated with NaCl solution as and when necessary. The experiment was irrigated eight times. Each NaCl level had 90 pots, which were irrigated by 75 liter of solution each time. Fertilizers were calculated out from the standard dose as recommended by TCRC for potato and applied in cash pot. During the period of the experiment no rain occurred. The experiment was harvested 80 days after planting.
