To Study of the Effect of Weak Acid/alkali on Jute Fabric for the Improvement Glassy Property.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The research work was carried out at Chemical Processing Department in Pilot Plant & Processing Division of BJRI in 2009-2010. The project was taken to improve the brightness and whiteness property of the fabric. Jute fabric were treated with four different types of acid (formic acid, acetic acid, oxalic acid & citric acid) and a weak alkali (ammonium hydro oxide) in different concentrations of the solutions such as 5gm/l and 10gm/l. At the same times three different treatment times (30 min, 60 min, 90 min) were taken for each and every acid and alkali treated samples. Different parameters were measured. Jute fabric treated with 10gm/l citric acid solution under 90 min. treatment time gives the best glassy and brightness property for jute fabric.

Jute fabric (CBC) were treated with four different types of weak acid and a alkali . These are: 1) formic acid, ii) acetic acid, iii) citric acid, iv) oxalic acid and v) ammonium hydro oxide. Different concentration of solutions such as 5gm/l, 10gm/l and three different treatment times (30 min, 60 min and 90 min) were taken for each and every acid and alkali treated samples. Different parameters were measured.

Achievement/Findings:

The treatment process did not have any significant effect on the tensile strength of the fabric. The brightness property of the treated fabric showed improvement than the control samples.It was observed that jute fabric were treated with citric acid under 10gm/l solution at 90 min give the best brightness property. Tensile strength of the citric acid treated samples were slightly decreased than the control sample.Moreover, Brightness property of the jute fabric increased with the acid treatment and slightly decreased with the alkali treatment.
