Study of Different Pipeline Varieties of Jute, Kenaf and Mesta in Different Agro-ecological Conditions of Bangladesh.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted at five locations such as JRRS Rangpur, Chandina, Kishoregonj, Faridpur and JAES, Jagir, Manikgonj during the period of 2000-2001 to study the comparative retting and fibre properties of different pipeline varieties of jute. The jute varieties of C. capsuleris C-2035 (3396 kg/ha), 983 kg/ha), 1025 kg/ha) and C-2143 (3260 kg/ha) at JRRS Chandina, Kishoregonj, Faridpur and Manikgonj respectively were higher yielder having less cutting of fine fibre and ideal colour in comparison with other C. capsularis varieties and tested controls. On the other hand OM-1 (3378 kg/ha) (1171 kg/ha), (1037 kg/ha) and 3235 kg/ha at Chandina, Kishoregonj, Faridpur and Manikgonj respectively was found higher yielder having less cutting of fine fibre and ideal colour in comperism with O-4 variety. Fibre grades for both type of jute were A type. Retting times were ranged from 11-19 days for capsularies and 11-17 days for olitorius jute variety.

Objectives:

To study the comparative retting and fibre properties of different pipeline varieties of jute, kenaf and mesta grown eventually different agro-ecological consititions of Bangladesh.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at five locations such JRRS Rangpur, Chandina, Kishoregonj, Faridpur and JAES, Jagir, Manikgonj. In 2000-2001, the experiment could not be conducted properly due to heavy rainfall at Rangpur. Six C. capsularis pipeline varieties viz. CVL-1 (control), C-2035, C-2143, C-2005 & C-718 and three C. olitorius pipeline varieties viz. O-4 (control), OM-1 and OF-390 and each were grown in 1 decimal of land in each station. Plants were harvested at budding stage and retted in identical condition separately. Fibres were extracted, washed, dried and physical properties and quality of the fibres were assessed.
