Survey of Incidence of Gummosis and Sudden Decline of Mango Plants at Chapai Nawabganj and Rajshahi District

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A survey on the incidence of gummosis and sudden decline of mango plants was conducted at five Upazilla of Chapai Nawabganj and one Upazilla of Rajshahi district in 2008-2009 and 2009-2010.. It was observed that gummosis and sudden decline of mango becoming a serious threat to the mango production. Among the six Upazilla the highest incidence (2.88 %) was recorded in Shibganj where as the lowest incidence (1.38 %) was recorded in both Bholahat and Bagha upazilla in 2008-09. Similar result was obtained in 2009-10 season. In case of varietal reaction the incidence varied from 0 % to 2.92 % and 0% to 3.31 % regarding the surveyed area in 2008-09 and 2009-10 respectively. Among the six Upazilla the highest incidence (2.92 %) was recorded in Fazli variety followed by Gootee variety where as the lowest incidence (0.24 %) was recorded in BARI Aam -3 in 2008-09. Similar trained was observed in 2009-10 season. BARI Aam -4 was free from the infection in both the year. If we consider variety and location it was observed that the maximum incidence was recorded in Fazli followed by Gootee.

Objectives:

To assess the incidence of the disease in mango orchards of Chapai Nawabganj and Rajshahi district

Methodology:

This survey was conducted at Bagha upazilla of Rajshahi and Bholahat, Nachole, Gomostapur, Shibganj and Sadar upozilla of Chapai Nawabganj district during 2008-09 to 2009-10. Ten mango orchards from each upazilla were selected for the survey programme. The survey was started in the month of August and continued up to May in both the year. The selected orchards were visited after every three months. Data were collected from the orchard owner through an interview. Trees died recently by the disease and trees infected during the survey period were noted down. All the collected data were calculated and expressed in percentage.

Achievement/Findings:

In August 08 the disease incidence varied from 0.78 to 1.87 %. The highest incidence (1.87 %) in Shibganj the lowest incidence (0.78 %) in Bholahat upozilla. August 09 the disease incidence varied from 0.85 % to 1.95 %. The highest incidence (1.95 %) in Gomostapur and the lowest incidence (0.85 %) in Bholahat. November 09 the highest incidence (2.85 %) in Shibganj and the lowest incidence (1.25 %) in Bholahat upozilla. Location wise percent plant died: In case of percent died plants due to gummosis and sudden decline the percent varied from 0.58 % to 4.44 %. The highest death (4.44%) in Shibganj and the lowest death (0.58%) in Bholahat at August 08. During 2009-10 the percent varied from 0.62 % to 3.56 %. The highest death (3.56%) in Shibganj and the lowest death (0.62%) in Bholahat at August 09. Varietal reaction The incidence was varied from 0 to 2.92 %. The highest disease incidence 2.92 % in fazli followed by gootee and the lowest incidence 0.24 % in BARI Aam -3 at 2008-09. In case of percent died plant due to gummosis and sudden decline it varied from 0 to 1.55%. The highest death (1.55 %) was in Fazli followed by Langra (1.29 %) and gootee (1.13%) and the lowest death (0.35 %) was Bomby. During 2009-10 the percent died plant varied from 0 to 1.84% . The highest death (1.84 %) was Fazli followed by gootee (1.70 %) and Langra (1.18%) and the lowest death (0.35 %) was Bomby. There was no died plant found of BARI Aam -1 BARI, BARI Aam -3 and BARI Aam -4.
