Evaluation of Advanced Lines of White Jute for Higher Yield.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

This experiment was conducted at JAES, Manikganj for evaluation of ten advanced breeding lines (C-12221, C-2262, C-2305, C-1549, C-5117, C-5126, C-5127, C-6766, C-6786 and C-4345) with check variety CVL-1. Seeds were sown in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with 3 replications.Data were recorded on plant population, plant height, base diameter, green weight, fibre weight and stick weight at the age of 120 days. Analysis of variance showed nonsignificant differences among the progenies. Whereas strains C-12221 (4.44 t/ha), C-2262 (4.56 t/ha), C-2305 (4.13 t/ha), C-1549 (3.86 t/ha), C-5117 (3.97t/ha), C-5126 (4.65 t/ha), C-6786 (4.29 t/ha), and C-4345 (3.81 t/ha) showed numerically higher yield than the check variety CVL-1 (3.76 t/h).

Objectives:

To develop breeding lines with higher yield than the existing cultivars.

Methodology:

This experiment was conducted at JAES, Manikganj for evaluation of ten advanced breeding lines (C-12221, C-2262, C-2305, C-1549, C-5117, C-5126, C-5127, C-6766, C-6786 and C-4345) with check variety CVL-1. Seeds were sown in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with 3 replications having unit plot size of 2.1m x 3.0m = 6.30 sq.m. At the age of 120 days data were recorded on plant population, plant height, base diameter, green weight, fibre weight and stick weight .Standard agronomic practices were followed for uniform growth of plants.
