A pot experiment was conducted at the pot house of plant pathology division RARS, Ishurdi, pabna during 2009-2010 winter season. The following treatments with 5 replications were used in the study: 60, 70, 80, 90, 100 g AM spore/pot, Furadan and control. The highest shoot length was recorded by T4 (62.89 cm) treatment. The maximum shoot weight was recorded in T5 (53.71 gm). The root length ranged from 20.42-38.29 cm significantly with all the rest treatments. All the treatments amended with AM proved their efficiency to establish the root infection. It was found that root infection increased with increasing of AM inocula concentration. Significantly lower gall number per gram root was recorded in T4 and it differed significantly with all the rest treatments. The minimum gall index of 2.0 at 0-10 scale was assessed in T4, T5 and T6. The maximum yield was harvested in T5 (3461 gm). T5 (100 g Am spore/pot) gave satisfactory results to reduce root-knot disease and to improve plant growth and yield of tomato.

To find out the effective doses of mycorrhiza to manage of root knot nematode of tomato.

A pot experiment was conducted at the pot house of plant pathology division RARS, Ishurdi, pabna during 2009-2010 winter season. The following treatments with 5 replications were included in the study: 60, 70, 80, 90, 100 g AM spore/pot, Furadan and control. Design used was CRD and 35 pots were used and each pot contained 5 kg soil. Properly chopped root knot infested 2g galled roots were used per pot to provide inocula. AM inoculums were collected from soil science division. At first 2/3 portion of the pots were filled with soil. Then a thin layer of both inoculums i.e. root inoculums and soil inoculums were placed in each pot. The inoculums layer of each pot was covered with a thin soil layer of 2cm below the surface in which seed were sown. Variety BARI tomato-5 (Raton) was used. Watering and other intercultural operations were done as and when necessary. At the end of the growing period, plants were uprooted carefully from the soil, washed under running tap water. Plant growth characteristics like shoot height, root length, fresh weight of shoots and roots were recorded. The number of galls per gram of roots, and yield contributing characters were recorded. The degree of galling was indexed on the basis of 0-10 scale (Zeck 1971), were 0 (zero) represented free from gall and 10 severely galled root system. Soil sample from the pot were collected during harvesting of the crop for counting AM spore population. Assessment of spore population was done by following the wet Sieving and Decanting method (Gerdermann and Nicolson, 1963). Percent root colonization was calculated

There were significant variations among the treatments on growth and yield parameters of tomato due to M. incognita infection. Shoot length ranged from 62.89-43.25cm. Significantly higher shoot length was recorded by T4 (90 gm AM spore/pot). The maximum shoot weight was recorded in T5 (53.71gm), followed by T6 (Furadan 5G). T4 (90 gm AM spore/pot), T3 (80 gm AM spore/pot), T2, T1 (Eighty gm AM spore) and T7. The effect of T7 and T1 were statistically similar. Root length ranged from 20.42-38.29 cm. Significantly higher root length was recorded in T5. The effect of T1 and T7 were statistically similar on root length. Root weight varied 20.69-46.93g. Although T6 produced maximum root length followed by treatment T5. After confirming mycorrhizal association in root system, we identify the spore population in soils. However, we obtained a little amount of mycorrhizal spore. The identification was done in the mycorrhiza laboratory, Soil Science division, BARI, Joydebpur, Gazipur. Number of galls/gram root among the treatments varied widely, ranging from 35.79-174.0, respectively. Significantly lower gall number per gram root was counted in T7 and it showed statistically insignificant with all the treatments. Significantly lower gall number per gram root was recorded in T5 and it differed significantly with all the rest treatments. The minimum gall index of 2.0 at 0.10 scales was assessed in T4, T5 and T6. The maximum yield was harvested in T5 (3461gm) followed by T6 (3100 gm), T4 (2795gm), T3 (2391gm), T2 (2118gm), T1 (2090gm). Statistical analysis revealed that the effect of T5, T6, T4 and T3 on fruit yield was insignificant. The treatments T5, T4 and T6 gave significantly higher yield compared to T1, T2 and T7. The treatment T7 gave significantly lower yield which differed with all the rest treatments.
