Field Evaluation of Bio-organic Soil Fungicide in Controlling Soil Borne Diseases and Yield of Onion, Bush Bean and Field Pea.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Bio-organic fungicides in soil either furrow or broad cast methods significantly differed from the control in increasing germination, and reducing seedling mortality. The dose 200kg/ha gave highest germination in furrow soil application. Furrow application, 150 and 200kg/ha showed lowest seedling mortality.Furrow application of 150kg/ha BOF gave statistically similar dry weight and green pod yield of bush bean.Bio-organic fungicides applied gave higher germination and lower seedling mortality over control.The highest fresh, dry wt., no of pod were achieved from the treatment where 200kg/ha of Trichoderma containing organic soil fungicide was applied both in furrow broad cast method.

Objectives:

To explore the prospects of the available and low cost organic matters along with a promising Trichoderma isolates at various dosages and delivery systems to the crop soil against R. solani and S. solfsii as well as enhancing the growth and yield of the crops.

Methodology:

The field experiment was carried out during 2005-2006 cropping season at Joydebpur, Gazipur. The treatments were T₁ : Trichoderma base organic fungicide soil furrow application @ 50kg/ha T₂: Trichoderma base organic fungicide soil furrow application @ 100kg/ha T₃: Trichoderma base organic fungicide soil furrow application @ 150kg/ha T₄: Trichoderma base organic fungicide soil furrow application @ 200kg/ha T₅: Trichoderma base organic fungicide broad cast application @ 50kg/ha T₆: Trichoderma base organic fungicide broad cast application @ 100kg/ha T₇: Trichoderma base organic fungicide broad cast application @ 150kg/ha T₈: Trichoderma base organic fungicide broad cast application @ 200kg/ha T₉: Control (No Bio-organic fungicide applied either furrow or broad cast) The inocula of Sclerotium rolfsii @ 10 g/1sqm and Rhizoctonia solani @ 15 g/1sqm were mixed thoroughly with field plot soil 7 days before application of bio-organic fungicide Bush bean: The unit plot size was 2mx 2m. The BARI bush bean -1 seed (50 seeds/ plot) was sown on 2nd December 2006. Field Pea: The unit plot size was 2mx 1m. The BARI field pea -2 seed (40 seeds/ plot) was sown on 10th December 2006. Onion: The unit plot size was 2.5mx 1.5m. The seedlings (35 seedlings/ plot) was transplanted on 12th December 2006.

Achievement/Findings:

Bush bean: Effect on diseases incidence: It was observed that those treatments received bio-organic fungicides in soil either furrow or broad cast methods significantly differed from the control in increasing germination, and reducing seedling mortality. Furrow application of fungicides gave better results than broad cast application of fungicide. Among the dosages 200kg gave highest germination in furrow soil application and statistically similar with 200kg broad cast application. Among the treatments, lower mortality was achieved over control. Furrow application, 150 and 200kg/ha showed lowest seedling mortality and no significant difference between 150 and 200 kg/ha bio-organic fungicide furrow soil application. Highest percent mortality reduction was obtained from 200kg in furrow and 150 kg in broad cast application and lowest was for 50kg in broad cast application. Effect on growth and yield: It is observed that furrow application of 150kg/ha BOF gave statistically similar dry weight and green pod yield of bush bean. 200kg/ha BOF application showing no significant deference either in furrow or in broad cast delivery methods in terms of fresh, dry wt. and yield of bush bean. Field pea Effect on disease incidence: The treatments where bio-organic fungicides applied gave higher germination and lower seedling mortality over control. 200kg/ha in furrow soil application showed highest germination (52.33) which is statistically similar to broad cast soil application (200kg/ha). The lowest seedling mortality (70.33) was achieved from both the delivery methods furrow soil @200kg/ha and broad cast soil @ 150kg/ha which is statistically similar with broad cast soil application @100kg/ha. Effect on growth and yield: The results are presented in table 4. The highest fresh, dry wt., no of pod were achieved from the treatment where 200kg/ha of Trichoderma containing organic soil fungicide was applied both in furrow broad cast method. 48.00% yield increase over control was recorded from the plot where biological fungicide applied in furrow soil (200kg/ha) followed by furrow (150kg/ha), broad cast (200 kg/ha) and broad cast (150kg/ha).
