Diversity of Pathogens Causing Rhizome Rot of Ginger

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted to find out the pathogens associated with the rhizome rot of ginger. Samples were collected from 16 districts. Among the tested samples 33.33% to 100% incidence of Pythium aphanidermatum was found at different locations. About 16.67% to 100% incidence of Fusarium oxysporum and 5.88% to 50% incidence of Sclerotium rolfsii were found at different location

Objectives:

To identify the causal agents of rhizome rot properly

Methodology:

Forty nine diseased samples were collected from 16 district of the country. Isolation and identification of the pathogens were conducted by culturing on PDA, blotter and water at the laboratory of Plant Pathology Division. Data on disease incidence was recorded.

Achievement/Findings:

At Gazipur, 50 % samples were infected by Pythium aphanidermatum, Fusarium oxysporum Sclerotium rolfsii. At Bogra 100% and 50 % infection of samples were found by Pythium aphanidermatum and Fusarium oxysporium respectively. At Rangpur, 35.30%, 29.41% and 5.88% rhizome samples were infected by Pythium aphanidermatum, Fusarium oxysporum and Sclerotium rolfsii respectively. At Khagrachori, 33.33%, 16.67% and 16.67% rhizome infection were detected by Pythium aphanidermatum, Fusarium oxysporium and Sclerotium rolfsii respectively. 100% incidence by Pythium aphanidermatum and Fusarium oxysporium were found at Faridpur. 50%, 100%, 100%, 100%, 100%, 67.67%, 100%, 66.67%, 100%, 50% and 100% incidence were occurred by Pythium aphanidermatum at Srimongol, Pabna, Natore, Ishurdi, Kushtia, Jessore, Magura, Jhenedha, Sherpur, Feni and Comilla
