Characterization of Some Selected Tossa Jute (corchorus Olitorius) Germplasm.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted at JAES Manikganj and Jute Research sub-station, Monirampur, Jessore in 2012 to characterize of twenty four accessions of selected tossa jute collected from different sources were sown on 16 April, 2012 along with the check varieties O-9897 and BJRI Tossa Part -4 (O-72). The experiment was sown in a mini plot of 3 meter length of 5 rows for each accession. Row to row distance was 30 and plant to plant distance was 5-6 cm in rows. The unit plot size was 3m x 1.2 m for each accession and plot to plot distance was 1 meter. Pigmentation data were collected at 60 days after sowing. Plants were harvested at 120 days after sowing and post harvest data were collected. The accessions were characterized for their morph-agronomic attributes as per Corchorus descriptor list. Based on the major yield contributing characters viz. technical height, leaf angle, leaf length, leaf width, petiole length, node number, base diameter of stem, middle diameter of stem, top diameter of stem, core diameter, dry fibre weight and dry stick weight accessions 2723, 3499, 1095, 4229, 1041, 3736, and 4579 were performed better in the most of the yield attributes than the control varieties O-9897 and BJRI Tossa Part-4.

Objectives:

To characterize some of selected tossa jute (Corchorus olitorius L.) germplasm as per Corchorus Descriptor for their morpho-agronomic attributes.

Methodology:

The experiment was sown in a mini plot of 3 meter length of 5 rows for each accession. Row to row distance was 30 and plant to plant distance was 5-6 cm in rows. The unit plot size was 3m x 1.2 m for each accession and plot to plot distance was 1 meter. The accessions were sown on 16 April, 2012 with check variety CVL-1 and CVE-3. Other standard cultural and intercultural practices were followed. Pigmentation data were collected at 60 days after sowing. Plants were harvested at 120 days after sowing and post harvest data were collected. Twenty four accessions viz. 1041, 1062, 1065, 1066, 1095, 1143, 1151, 1312, 1313, 1343, 1346, 1770, 2723, 3491, 3499, 3726, 3732, 3736, 3754, 3768, 3801, 4229, 4551 and 4577 were characterized.
