Evaluation of Ten Advanced Lines of White Jute for Higher Yield.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Under this experiment ten advanced breeding lines (C-12221, C-12038, C-2242, C-2252, C-2262, C-2267, C-12033, C-2186, C-2295 and C-2305) and a check variety CVL-1 were tested at JAES, Manikganj. Seeds were sown in a randomized complete block design with 3 replications. Analysis of variances revealed insignificant differences among the treatments for all the characters. Numerically fibre yield of strain C-2242 (4.66 t/ha), C-12033 (4.71 t/ha) and C-2305 (4.71 t/ha) out yielded the check variety CVL-1 (4.60 t/ha).

Objectives:

To develop breeding lines with higher yield than the existing cultivars.

Methodology:

Under this experiment ten advanced breeding lines (C12221, C-12038, C-2242,C-2252, C-2262, C-2267, C-12033, C-2186, C-2295 and C-2305) and a check variety CVL-1 were tested at JAES, Manikganj. Seeds were sown in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with 3 replications having unit plot size of 2.1m x 3.0m = 6.30 sq.m. Data were recorded on plant population, plant height, base diameter, green weight, Stick weight and fibre weight at the age of 120 days. Standard agronomic practices were followed for uniform growth and development.
