The experiment was conducted at RARS Ishurdi, Jamalpur and ARS Bogra during the Khraif-I season of 2009. Eighteen mungbeqan varieties/lines were tested in the trial following RCB design with three replications. In the screening experiment of mungbean for drought tolerance.  At Joydebpur the highest seed weight was found in BARI mug-5 (57.16 g/1000 seed) followed by BARI mug-6 and BMX-01007 (53.92 g/1000 seed). At Ishurdi the highest seed yield was observed in BMX 01015 (1403 kg/ha) followed by BU mug-1 (1338 kg/ha) BU mug-4 (1338 kg/ha), BMX 01007 (1300kg/ha), BINA mug-5 (1250 kg/ha) and BINA mug-6 (1292 kg/ha). At Jamalpur he variety BINA mug-7 produced the highest seed yield and the lowest seed yield was obtained from BMX-90009-6 and BARI mug-4. It might be concluded that BMX-01015, BU mug-1, BARI mug-3 and BINA-mug-7 showed as drought tolerance variety/lines. Moreover, BU-mug-4, BMX-01007, BMX-01013, BINA-mug-5 and BINA-mug-6 also showed better performance for drought tolerance.

(i) To select suitable summer mungbean varieties/lines for drought tolerance

(iii) To identify of physiological traits for breeding against drought.

The experiment was conducted at Joydebpur, RARS Ishurdi and Jamalpur and ARS Bogra during the Khraif-I season of 2009. The experiment was laid out in a RCB design with three replications. Total 18 varieties/lines viz. BARI mug-1, BARI mug-2, BARI mug-3, BARI mug-4, BARI mug-5, BARI mug-6, BU mug-1, BU mug-2, BU mug-4, BINA mug-5, BINA mug-6, BINA mug-7, BMX 01007, BMX 01008 BMX 01013, BMX 01014, BMX 01014, BMX 01015 and BMX 90009-6 were tested in the screening programme for drought tolerance. The crop varieties/lines were sown on 24 March 2009 at Ishurdi and Bogra and 16 March at Jamalpur respectively. Unit plot size was 3.0 m × 1.8 m. Continuous seed was sown at 30 cm apart line. Pre sowing irrigation was applied for ensuring seed germination. Intercultural operations and plan protection measures were taken as an when necessary. The crop was harvested on different times (55-65 DAE) according to maturity. Data on different crop characters, soil moisture level and weather elements were recorded. The collected data were analyzed and the means are separated following DMRT.

Screening of mungbean for drought tolerance revealed that BMX-01015, BU mug-1, BARI mug-3 and BINA mug7 showed as drought tolerance. Moreover, BU-mug 4, BMX-01007, BMX-01013, BINA mug-5 and BINA mung-6 also showed moderetely for drought tolerance.
