Characterization of Deshi Jute (corchorus Capsularis) Germplasm.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted at Jute Research sub-station, Monirampur, Jessore in 2011 to characterize of twenty three accessions of deshi jute collected from different sources were sown on 30 March, 2011 along with the check variety CVL-1. The experiment was sown in a mini plot of 3 meter length of 5 rows for each accession. Row to row distance was 30 and plant to plant distance was 5-6 cm in rows. The unit plot size was 3m x 1.2 m for each accession and plot to plot distance was 1 meter. Pigmentation data were collected at 60 days after sowing. Plants were harvested at 120 days after sowing and post harvest data were collected. The accessions were characterized for their morph-agronomic attributes as per Corchorus descriptor. Based on the major yield contributing characters viz. technical height, leaf angle, leaf length, leaf width, petiole length, node number, base diameter of stem, middle diameter of stem, top diameter of stem, core diameter, dry fibre weight and dry stick weight. Accessions no. 3507, 3508, 3519, 3520, 3496, 3493, 3492 and 3525 performed better in most of the cases than the control variety CVL-1.

Objectives:

To characterize some of deshi jute (Corchorus capsularis L.) germplasm as per Corchorus Descriptor for their morpho-agronomic attributes.

Methodology:

The experiment was sown in a mini plot of 3 meter length of 5 rows for each accession. Row to row distance was 30 and plant to plant distance was 5-6 cm in rows. The unit plot size was 3m x 1.2 m for each accession and plot to plot distance was 1 meter. The accessions were sown in 25 March, 2012 with check variety CVL-1. Other standard cultural and intercultural practices were followed. Pigmentation data were collected at 60 days after sowing. Plants were harvested at 120 days after sowing and post harvest data were collected. Twenty three accessions viz 3484, 3492, 3493, 3496, 3497, 3498, 3503, 3505, 3506, 3507, 3508, 3509, 3511, 3512, 3519, 3520, 3521, 3522, 3523, 3525, 3526, 3527 and 3528 were characterized.

Achievement/Findings:
