Yield of Deshi and Tossa Jute Due to Different Sowing Dates.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted at Manikganj, Rangpur and Kishoreganj in 2001 to determine the optimum sowing date of deshi jute variety CVL-1 and tossa jute variety O-9897. It was laid-out in RCBD with 3 replications. Crop was sown on 5 different dates viz., 15 March, 30 March 15 April, 30 April and 15 May regarded as treatment. Experiment of Kishoreganj was damaged due to heavy rainfall and hailstorm. Results showed that at Manikganj station, the highest fibre and stick yields were produced of CVL-1 at 30 March (3.96 & 9.30 t/ha) which was followed by 15 March, 15 April, 30 April and 15 May, and were produced of O-9897 at 30 April (2.67 & 6.23 t/ha) which was followed by 15 April, 30 March, 15 May and 15 March. Results also showed that at Kishoreganj station, the highest yields were produced of CVL-1 at 30 March (3.43 & 6.80 t/ha) which was followed by 15 March, 15 April, 30 April and 15 May, highest yields were produced of O-9897 at 30 March (2.97 & 5.88 t/ha) which was followed by 15 April, 15 March, 30 April and 15 May. All other yield attributes studied were resulted similar with the yields.

Objectives:

To assess the yield of deshi and tossa jute with a wide range of sowing time.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at Jute Agriculture Experimental Station Manikganj, Jute Research Regional Station Rangpur and Kishoreganj in 2001 to determine the optimum sowing date of deshi jute variety CVL-1 and tossa jute variety O-9897. The experiment was laid-out in RCBD with three replications. Crops were sown on five different dates viz., 15 March, 30 March 15 April, 30 April and 15 May regarded as treatments. Unit plot size would be 4.0m x 2.5m. Space between plot to plot, around the field 1.0m and between two replications 1.5m. were maintained. Plants were harvested at 120 days after each sowing. Other cultural and intercultural operations were attended as per BJRI recommendation.
