A Comparative Study of Yarns.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

To assess the comparative study of the yarns different sample of different count yarn, produced from the same grade of fiber, were collected from a Chittagong zone during 01-01-1986 to 31-12-1986. Thereafter the physico-mechanical properties such as count, breaking strength, quality ratio, extension and etc. of CBC, hessian, and sacking in both warp and weft way were measured in the Testing Department of BJRI, Dhaka at standard room temperature and humidity conditions. The results revel that in case of CBC yarns the quality ratio as well as breaking strength increase with the increase of yarn counts. The average breaking strength of hessian weft yarn was higher compared to sacking warp yarn

Objectives:

1.To prepare the yarn of different count.

2.To study the physico-mechanical properties of CBC yarn.

Methodology:

Samples of CBC yarns and yarns of different count produced from the same grade of fiber were collected from CJMCL Chittagong. Specimen of yarn 20 inches long were selected and breaking strength was measured using Jame Heal and Co. Ltd. Tensile strength tester. Each yarn pieces was clamped in the grips of the tensile tester and breaking strength was measured 50 individual yarn pieces were tested to obtain the average breaking strength of a yarn. Then the physico-mechanical properties such as count, breaking strength, quality ratio, extension and etc. of CBC, hessian, and sacking in both warp and weft way were measured in the Testing Department of BJRI, Dhaka at standard room temperature and humidity conditions. Thereafter, 100yd. hanks of yarn taken from a sample were weighted to determine the grist and the result was expressed in pounds per spindle of 14,400 yds.

Achievement/Findings:

It was found that in case of CBC yarns the quality ratio increases with the increase of yarn counts. It also found from the results that in case of the yarns produced from the fibers of grade Bangladesh White C (BWC), the quality ratio decreases with the increase of yarn count. The average breaking strength of hessian weft yarn was higher compared to sacking warp yarn. As the count of the yarn was varied their physico mechanical properties were also varied.
