Effect of Fungicides in Controlling Leaf Blight of Panikachu in 2010-11

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Nine fungicides were tested against leaf blight disease of Panikachu at Joydebpur during 2010 kharif season. All the tested fungicides reduced the disease significantly over control. Among the fungicides, Manconil showed highest reduction of disease (76.54%) followed by Deconil (75.59%) and lowest reduction was observed in Euromeal sprayed plot (61.47%).

Objectives:

To screen some newly introduced fungicides against leaf blight disease of Panikachu at Joydebpur.

Methodology:

Panikachu sucker was planted at Joydebpur on 20 March 2010. The unit plot size was 3.0 x 1.8 m and spacing was 60 x 45 cm and replicated three times. The crop was fertilized at the rate of 10 tons of cow dung, (N: P₂O₅: K₂O: S @ 70:25:90:20 Kg/h) per hectare. Eight fungicides viz. Larneb 70 WP (Propineb) (0.1%), Manconil (Mancozeb+Cymoxanil) (0.2%), Acrozeb (Mancozeb) (0.2%), Iprothan (Mancozeb) (0.2%), Jazz 80 WP (Mancozeb) (0.2%), Shield (Mancozeb) (0.2%), Euromeal (Mancozeb+Cymoxanil) (0.2%), Deconil (Chlorothlonil) (0.1%) and Dithane M-45 (Mancozeb) (0.2%) were used in the trial. One control treatment was also maintained in the trial. The spraying was started just after initiation of the disease symptom. The crop was sprayed at 10 days interval. Data on percent foliage infection and stolon yield were recorded. The harvesting of stolon was started from 8 July 2010 and continued up to 20 September 2010. Data were analyzed statistically.

Achievement/Findings:

All the tested fungicides reduced the disease significantly over control. Among the fungicides, Manconil performed better to control the leaf blight of Panikachu followed by Deconil.
