Effect of Irrigation and Phosphorus on Yield of Sesame in Early Kharif Season

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted at the Regional Agricultural Research Station, Ishurdi, Pabna during early kharif season during 2007 and 2008 to find out the optimum level of irrigation and phosphorus for higher yield of sesame. The experiment was laid out in a split plot design following three replications. Four irrigation levels viz., no-irrigation (I₀) , one-irrigation at 15 DAE (I₁₅), one-irrigation at 30 DAE (I₃₀₎ and Two Irrigation at 15 and 30 DAE (I₁₅₊₃₀) were assigned to the main plots and four phosphorus levels viz., 30, 60, 90 and 120 kg of P/ha (P30, P60, P90 and P120 ) were assigned to the sub-plots. Two years result revealed that irrigation at 15 and 30 DAE with 90kg/ha of P gave the highest yield of sesame at Ishurdi region.

Objectives:

To obtain higher yield of sesame by the efficient use of irrigation and phosphorus in early sowing condition.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at the Regional Agricultural Research Station, Ishurdi, Pabna in early kharif season during 2007 and 2008 to find out the optimum level of irrigation and phosphorus for higher yield of sesame. The experiment was laid out in a split plot design following three replications. Four irrigation levels viz., no-irrigation (I₀) , one-irrigation at 15 days after emergence (DAE) (I₁₅), one-irrigation at 30 DAE (I₃₀) and Two Irrigation at 15 and 30 DAE (I₁₅₊₃₀) were assigned to the main plots and four phosphorus levels viz., 30, 60, 90 and 120 kg of P/ha (P30, P60, P90 and P120 ) were assigned to the sub-plots. The unit plot size was 5.1 m x 4.0 m. BARI Till-3 was used as the test crop. The crop was sown on 15 and 19 March and harvested on 14 and 15 June in two growing seasons, respectively. The crop was fertilized with 60-30-20-2-2 kg N-K-S-Zn-B/ha. The entire amount of N-K-S-Zn-B and half of N was applied as basal. The rest amount of N was top dressed at 30 DAE. Weeding cum thinning was done at 15 DAE. Data on yield and yield contributing characters were collected and analyzed statistically.

Achievement/Findings:
