Evaluation of Different Insecticides Against Potato Cutworm at Breeder Seed Production Centre, (bspc) Debiganj

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The damage severity of potato plants due to cutworm (Agrotis ipsilon Hufnagel) were recorded during rabi season 2008-09 in the potato field of BSPC, Debiganj, Panchagarh with 21 different insecticides. Among them three insecticides Polon 55 EC, Frescophos 20 EC, Glorious 48 EC performed better and reduced >80% damage over untreated control plot.

Objectives:

To screen new insecticide to control cut worm of potato

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at Breeder Seed Production Centre, (BSPC) Debiganj following the Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The variety was Diamant. The spacing between row to row and plant to plant were 60 cm and 25 cm, respectively. Each unit plot was 3m x 3m. Fertilizers were used as per recommended doses (Urea 350kg/ha, TSP 220 kg/ha, MP 260 kg/ha and Gypsum 120 kg/ha). Irrigation was given twice. The experiment was setup on 26.11.09. Twenty one treatments such as Polon 55 EC(2 ml/liter of water), AC Mix 55EC (2 ml/liter of water), Strom 2.5 EC (2 ml/liter of water), Kisho 48 EC (3 ml/liter of water), Master 2.5 EC (1.5 ml/liter of water), Dewban 48 EC (3 ml/liter of water), Glorious48 EC (3 ml/liter of water), Iproban 48 EC (3 ml/liter of water), Pedephos 48 EC (3 ml/liter of water), Genephos 48 EC (3 ml/liter of water), Master plus 48 EC (3 ml/liter of water), Larvin 75 SP (1g/liter of water), Dizol 10 G (8.5kg/ha), Deltazol 10G (8.5 kg/ha), Spine 505 EC (2 ml/liter of water), Asitro 505EC (2 ml/liter of water), Frescophos 20 EC (7.5 ml/liter of water), Seathrin 2.5 EC (1.5 ml/liter of water), Seafuran 5 G (10 kg/ha), Root star 5G (10 kg/ha) with an untreated control. The insecticides were applied at the time of sowing and 15th days after germination. Necessary intercultural operation was done. Data on the cut seedlings were recorded from each plot. The numbers of cut seedling were recorded at 15 days interval up to 45 days of germination. The tuber was harvested after 90 days of planting. Percentage of infested tuber by number and weight and yield of good tubers were recorded. Data were analyzed statistically using DMRT for the mean separation.

Achievement/Findings:

All the insecticides are more or less effective to control the cutworm infestation. Three insecticides named Polon 55 EC, Frescophos 20 EC and Glorious 48EC performed better and reduces >80% damage over control. The insecticides which save more than eighty percent yield loss, so those insecticides may be use for the control of potato cutworm.
