Nineteen varieties/germplasm of sweet potato were evaluated under field condition at Joydebpur for virus resistance. Among 19 varieties/germplasm, 9 varieties/germplasms found free from SPFMV and 17 varieties/germplasms found free from mild mottle viruses. The highest SPFMV infection (16.68%) was recorded in the germplasm SP-613 followed by H7 (10.43%). The highest infection (19.51%) of mild mottle virus was recorded in SP-271. The highest infection of sweet potato leaf curl was obtained higher in SP-271 (35.21%). However, the 7 varieties/germplasms namely SP-609, H2, H24, SP-498, SP-560, CIP-44024, CIP-440186 were found free from all virus diseases among 19 genotypes tested. Among them, the H24 produced the highest tuber yield by 44.44 t/ha followed by H2 (43.75 t/ha) which was statistically insignificant.

To evaluate some promising varieties/germplasm against different virus diseases of sweet potato under field condition.

A total of 19 sweet potato varieties/ germplasm were planted in the field at Joydebpur during the cropping season 2009-10. All the varieties were planted on 03.12.09 with three replications. TCRC recommended doses of fertilizers (N: P2O5: K2O: S @ 70:20:90:20 Kg/h) were applied in the field. Percent plant infection by different virus diseases of sweet potato like, Sweet potato feathery mottle virus (SPFMV), Sweet potato leaf curl virus (SPLC) and Sweet potato mild mottle virus (SPMM) were recorded visually after 3 months of planting. The crop was harvested on 02.05.10 and yield data were taken. Data were analyzed.
