Characterization of Exotic Tossa Jute (corchorus Olitorius ) Germplasm Collected from Different Sources.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted at JAES, Manikganj in 2011 to characterize of forty six exotic tossa jute germplasm collected from different sources were sown on 09 April, 2011 along with the check varieties O-9897 and BJRI Tossa Pat -4 (O-72). The experiment was sown in a mini plot of 3 meter length of 5 rows for each accession. Row to row distance was 30 and plant to plant distance was 5-6 cm in rows. The unit plot size was 3m x 1.2 m for each accession and plot to plot distance was 1 meter. Pigmentation data were collected at 60 days after sowing. Plants were harvested at 120 days after sowing and post harvest data were collected. The accessions were characterized for their morph-agronomic attributes as per Corchorus descriptor. Based on the major yield contributing characters viz. technical height, leaf angle, leaf length, leaf width, petiole length, node number, base diameter of stem, middle diameter of stem, top diameter of stem, core diameter, dry fibre weight and dry stick weight accessions 4579, 4577, 4551, 1770, 2723 and 4694 performed better in the most of the yield attributes than the control varieties O-9897 and BJRI Tossa part-4.

Objectives:

To characterize some exotic tossa jute (Corchorus olitorius L.) germplasm as per Corchorus Descriptor for their morpho-agronomic attributes.

Methodology:

The experiment was sown in a mini plot of 3 meter length of 5 rows for each accession. Row to row distance was 30 and plant to plant distance was 5-6 cm in rows. The unit plot size was 3m x 1.2 m for each accession and plot to plot distance was 1 meter. The accessions were sown in 09 April, 2011 with check varieties O-9897 and BJRI Tossa Pat -4 (O-72. Other standard cultural and intercultural practices were followed. Pigmentation data were collected at 60 days after sowing. Plants were harvested at 120 days after sowing and post harvest data were collected. Forty six accessions viz 1093, 1095, 1098, 1101, 1264, 1267, 1270, 1297, 1362, 1363, 1367, 1751, 1754, 1757, 1761, 1763, 1766, 1769, 1770, 2397, 2492, 2499, 2509, 2723, 4551, 4552, 4553, 4554, 4559, 4560, 4564, 4566, 4567, 4571, 4572, 4573, 4574, 4557, 4577, 4578, 4579, 4580, 4691, 4692, 4694 and 4695 were characterized.

Achievement/Findings:
