Production of Fabric from Jute for Making Value Added Products.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted during the year 2001-2003 at Yarn and Fabric Production Department of Bangladesh Jute Research Institute, Dhaka.The aim of the project is to produce developed Novotex fabric from the developed low count jute yarns with various bleached and coloured designs. Low count jute yarn was spun with dyed and undyed jute fibers. Union fabric was woven using 20/2^s cotton yarn as warp and 4 lbs/spy jute yarn as weft for three coloured strips design. Physico-mechanical properties of the fabric were measured.The count of yarns in the warp way is 56.8 tex and in the weft way is 154.18 tex. These properties are acceptable for use as decorative purposes (sofa cover, pillow cover etc.).

Objectives:

to examine the trial production of jute-cotton fabric using low count jute yarns for making design fabrics for furnishing purpose.

Methodology:

BWB jute fiber was collected . From these one third fibers were dyed with blue colour,one third fibers with red colour and the rest one third fibers were kept untreated. The fibers in separate three groups were spun into yarn in the normal practice. 4 lbs/spy of three different type of grey and coloured yarns were spun with two different coloured fiber. After spinning plain weave fabric was oven in a Rapier loom by using these three types of jute yarns as filling yarn. 20/2^s cotton yarn was used as warp. Above these different dyed and undyed jute yarns were used in the weft way in the fabric. Thus a stripe design fabrics was woven. The fabric was then finally softened and finished and made ready for using furnishing purposes.

Achievement/Findings:

The weight of the fabric is 267.6 g/m²which is suitable for decorative fabric.Breaking strength of the fabric in the warp way is 46.27 kgf where 20/2^s cotton yarn was used and in the weft way is 50.25 kgf where 4 lbs/spy jute yarn was used.Blending length in the warp way is 1.67 cm.and in the weft way is 4.26cm.Weft yarn is more stiffer than the warp yarn.The count of yarns in the warp way is 56.8 tex and in the weft way is 154.18 tex. These properties are acceptable for use as decorative purposes. The oven fabric is suitable for bed cover, pillow cover etc.
