Advanced Line Adaptive Research Trial (alart) for Premium Quality Rice in T. Aman 2009

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

This study was conducted at Natore (Sadar), Naogaon (Mohadebpur), Dinajpur (Sadar), Dinajpur (Chirirbondar), Gaibandha (Polashbari), Mymensingh (Phulpur), Chapainababgonj (Sadar)and Sherpur (Sadar). Objectives of this study were to test the yield potential and adaptability of advanced lines at farmers’ field under different agro- ecological conditions of the country and to generate the feedback about the advantages and disadvantages of the lines from extension workers and farmers.From this study it was found that BR6926-1-1-1-1-2 and BR6926-1-1-1-3-2 gave consistently higher yield (2.81-5.18 tha-1) than the other lines (2.04-4.77 t/ha) having average yield of 3.98 tha-1. However, BR6922-4-4-4 produced almost similar yield like BR6926-1-1-1-1-2 & BR6926-1-1-1-3-2 and matured six days earlier than those lines. Although BR6944-42-4-2-8-2 and BR6926-3-1-3-1-4 were found to be of short duration (129-130 days), their yields were low (3.86 and 3.16 t/ha respectively). BRRI dhan37 (ck) and Kataribhog (ck) showed lodging tendency (15-100%) in most of the locations. Other entries were almost lodging tolerant.

Objectives:

To test the yield potential and adaptability of advanced lines at farmers’ field under different agro- ecological conditions of the country and
To generate the feedback about the advantages and disadvantages of the lines from extension workers and farmers.

Methodology:

Six advanced lines BR6926-1-1-1-1-2, BR6926-1-1-1-3-2, BR6926-3-7-12-2-2, BR6926-3-1-3-1-4, BR6944-42-4-2-8-2 and BR6922-4-4-4 along with two with two check varieties BRRI dhan37 and Kataribhog as checks were tested during T. Aman, 2009. The trials were replicated thrice in each location. The unit plot size for each entry was 15 m²^.Seeding time was 4 July, 2009 and transplanting was done during 29 July-10 August, 2009. Seedling age varied from 25-35 days among locations under varied circumstances. Seedlings were transplanted at 20 x 15 cm spacing. Fertilizers were applied @157: 113: 90: 67: 9 kg/ha as Urea :TSP :MP :Gypsum: ZnSO₄. All fertilizers except urea were applied as basal and urea was applied in 3 equal splits at 10-15 DAT, 30-35 DAT and PI stage. Other standard management practices were followed as and when necessary. Appropriate measures were taken to control insect pests. Date of seeding, transplanting, flowering, maturity, plant height, lodging tolerance, pest and disease incidence, yield and yield components were recorded. Feedback from farmers and DAE personnel were also recorded. For yield estimation, 10 m² sample area from each plot was harvested at maturity and grain yields were adjusted to 14% moisture content.

Achievement/Findings:

Considering grain yield, growth duration and farmers’ perceptions; BR6926-1-1-1-1-2, BR6926-1-1-1-3-2 and BR6922-4-4-4 were found suitable for proposed variety trial (PVT).
