Comparative Effectiveness of Libel Boron Fertilizer on Potato Production

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A new commercial boron fertilizer “Librel Boron (LB)” was studied at TCRC, Joydebpur, Bogra and Jessore during 2006-07 for its effectiveness with Borax on potato production. At Bogra, the response of LB was positive and significantly highest yield (26.35 t/ha) was obtained from the treatment where LB was sprayed at 30 DAP. At Joydebpur the response of LB identical to Borax. At Jessore no response of LB was obtained and this might be due to higher initial status of boron in the soil.

Objectives:

To determine the effectiveness of a new boron fertilizer "Librel Boron" in potato production.

Methodology:

The present study was carried out at TCRC, Joydebpur Bogra and Jessore during 2006-2007. Five treatments were included in the study which were: T₁ Boron ‘zero’, T₂ = Boron 0.55 kg/ha from Librel Boron (LB), applied in the soil as basal dose, T₃ = Boron 150 g/ha from LB as foliar spray (15 g LB/10 L of water for 5 decimal area) at 30 DAP, T₄ = Boron 300 g/ha from LB as 2 times foliar spray at 30 and 45 DAP and T₅= Boron 2.0 kg/ha from Borax. The experiment was laid out in RCB design with four replications. Unit plot size was 3.6 × 3.0 m. Whole tubers of the variety Diamant was planted on November 28, 2006 with as spacing of 60 cm × 25 cm. Fertilizers were applied @ 160-44-132-20 kg/ha of NPKS respectively. Full amount of NKS and 50% of N were applied as basal and remaining 50% of N was side dressed at 35 DAP. Boron fertilizer was applied as per treatments. Necessary intercultural operations were done as per TCRC recommendation. The crop was harvested at 92 DAP.
