Effect of Spacing and Fertilizer Management on the Yield of Indigenous Potato (cv.lalpakri)

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was conducted at ARS, Burirhat, Rangpur during rabi 2006-07 and 2007-08 to find out suitable spacing and optimum fertilizer dose for better yield of Lalpakri. The experiment were consisted with 3 spacings S₁= (50cm x 15 cm), S₂ =(50cm x 20 cm) and S₃ = (50cm x 25 cm) and 4 levels of fertilizer F₁=N110 P33 K110 S17 B1, F₂ =N135 P43 K135 S22 B1, F₃=N160 P53 K160 S33 B1 and F₄ = N150 P84 K141 S0 B0.6 (Farmers practice) kg/ha. The results reveled that fertilizer level F₄ and F₃ gave significantly the highest yield 18.35 t/ha and 24.43 t/ha, respectively in 1st and 2nd year). Spacing S₂ gave significant highest yield in both years (17.46 t/ha & 25.23 t/ha), which was statistically identical to S₁ (17.46 t/ha & 24.47 t/ha). From two years results it is revealed that spacing 50 cm x 15 cm and fertilizer dose N150P80K141S0B0.6 (farmer’s practice) was suitable for better yield of Lalpakri at Rangpur region.

Objectives:

To find out suitable spacing and optimum fertilizer dose for better yield of Lalpakri.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at ARS, Burirhat Farm, Rangpur during rabi 2006-07 and 2007-08. Three varying plant spacing S₁= (50cm x 15 cm), S₂=50cm x 20 cm) and S₃ = (50cm x 25 cm) and 4 levels of fertilizer F₁=N110 P33 K110 S17 B1, F₂ =N135 P43 K135 S22 B1, F₃=N160 P53 K160 S33 B1 & F₄ =N150 P84 K141 S0 B0.6 (farmers practice) kg/ha were applied on IPV Lalpakri. The crop with varying treatments was accommodated in 3m x 3m sized unit plots following RCB factorial design with 3 replications. Uniform sized tubers (av.80 no. tuber/kg) were collected from Kichak of Bogra district. Basal 50% N and full of PKS&B fertilizers were applied as per treatment. The rest of 50% N was top dressed at 35 days after planting (DAP). Tubers were planted on November 26, 2006 and November 15, 2007. One weeding at 25 DAP, 4 irrigations at 25, 40, 55 and 70 DAP, and 2 earthing-up at planting and at 25 DAP were done. Plant protection measures were taken as and when necessary. The crop was harvested at maturity on March 8, 2007 and February 28 in 2008. Data on number of tubers/hill, weight of tubers/hill and tuber yield were taken properly. The collected data were analyzed statistically and means were adjusted by DMRT.

Achievement/Findings:

From two years results it is concluded that spacing 50 cm x 15 cm and fertilizer dose N150P80K141S0B0.6 (farmer’s practice) was suitable for better yield of Lalpakri in Rangpur region.
