Preliminary Yield Trial of Disease Tolerant and High Yielding White Jute Strains.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Under this experiment ten progenies/varieties (C-5003, C-5018, C-5030, C-5036, C-5044, C-5050, C-5105, C-5133, CVL-1 and CVE-3) were grown at four regional stations and JAES, Manikganj to study their yield and yield attributes. Analysis of variances revealed that plant height and green weight showed significant differences among the treatments in all the stations except Faridpur for plant height and Rangpur for green weight. At Kishoreganj, Chandina and Fairpdur highly significant differences were observed among the treatments for fibre weight. Similar trend was observed for stick weight at Faridpur. Out of eight progenies, four progenies viz. C-5003, C-5018, C-5050 and C-5105 gave good results for fibre yield.

Objectives:

To develop new varieties of white jute suitable for two main region early and late sowing and varieties with higher yield potential than the existing cultivars.

Methodology:

This experiment was carried out with ten progenies/varieties (C-5003, C-5018, C-5030, C-5036, C-5044, C-5050, C-5105, C-5133, CVL-1 and CVE-3) at four regional stations viz. Rangpur, Chandina, Faridpur, Kishoreganj and JAES, Manikganj to study their yield and yield attributes. These progenies were grown in a randomized complete block design with three replications having unit plot size of 2.1m x 3.0m = 6.30 sq. m. At the age of 120 days, data were recorded on plant population, plant height, base diameter, green weight, fibre weight and stick weight. Standard agronomic practices were followed for uni form growth.
