Efficacy of Fungicides in Controlling Cercospora Leaf Spot of Mungbean

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Efficacy of different fungicides namely Dithan-M-45 (0.2%), Ridomil gold (0.2%), Till 250 EC (0.05%), Knowing 50 WP (0.2%),Cupravitt (0.2%), Bavistin 50 WP (0.15%) and control was designed against Cercospora leaf spot of mungbean under natural field condition. In the result, it was found that Bavistin (0.15%) gave the lowest PDI (22) and highest yield (2261 Kg/ha) in controlling Cercospora leaf spot of Mungbean.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Rahmatpur Barisal during 2010-2011. The experiment was laid out in a well-prepared land. The design was RCB having 3 replications. The variety used was BARI Mung-6. There were 7 treatments namely Dithan-M-45 (0.2%), Ridomil gold (0.2%), Till 250 EC (0.05%), Knowing 50 WP (0.2%),Cupravitt (0.2%), Bavistin 50 WP (0.15%) and control. Five sprays were given at an interval of 10 days while the first one was applied just at the appearance first disease symptom. Disease data were recorded before every spray using 0-5 rating scale which developed by Mehta and Mondal (1978) as follows: 0 = No infection 1 = 10% leaf area infection 2 = 11-30% leaf area infection 3 = 31-50% leaf area infection 4 = 51-70 % leaf area infection 5 = 71% and above leaf area infection Percent disease index (PDI) was computed from the final data. The data was analyzed statistically for DMRT. (Zaman et al., 1982) Percent Disease Index (PDI) was computed according to the formula described by Krisna Prasad et al., (1979)

Achievement/Findings:

The percent disease index (PDI) was the lowest in Bavistin (0.15%) treated plot followed by Tilt 250 EC (0.05%). All treatments had significant effect over the control in respect of PDI. In respect of yield and yield attributes, Bavistin (0.15%) performed the best among the treatments.
