Preliminary Yield Trial of Mukhikachu Lines

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Seven advanced mukhikachu lines viz. MK - 103, MK -122, MK -129, MK - 131, MK - 143, MK - 156 and MK -163 were evaluated with the check var. Bilashi at Joydebpur during Kharif season of 2009. The lines were statistically influenced on growth, yield contributing characters and yield. The line MK - 131 showed significantly highest plant height (60.6 cm), width of the biggest leaf (24.27 cm), corm number (12.82) and weight per plant (425 g) and also yield (24.22 t/ha). Considering yield and other characters the 4 lines viz. MK - 131, MK -129, MK -163 and MK -122 were selected for further secondary yield trial in next season.

Objectives:

To select high yielding mukhikachu lines for release.

Methodology:

The trial was carried out at TCRC, Joydebpur during the kharif season of 2009. Seven advanced mukhikachu lines viz. MK 103, MK122, MK 129, MK 131, MK 143, MK 156 and MK 163 were evaluated with the check variety Bilashi. The crop was planted on 23 March 2009 following randomized complete block design with 3 replications. The unit plot size was 3 m × 4.5 m maintaining line to line distance 60 cm and plant to plant distance 45 cm. The crop was fertilized with a dose of 200-125-175 kg/ha of Urea-TSP-MOP respectively and 10 t/ha of cowdung. Half of MOP and full dose of TSP and cowdung were applied in plot during the final land preparation. Rest of MOP and half of urea were topdressed at 60 DAP and the rest half of urea was applied at 100 DAP. Other intercultural operations like weeding, earthing up, irrigation etc. were done as and when necessary. The crop was harvested on 28 October 2009. Data were collected on growth, yield contributing characters and yield and were analyzed statistically and means were separated by DMRT.
