A field trial was conducted at the Regional Horticulture Research Station, Chapai Nawabganj during February to June, 2011 to evaluate mango varieties and different fungicides against scab disesae. The mango varieties showed differential response to scab of mango fruits. Among the varieties the highest incidence (30.51%) was recorded in Khirsapat followed by Gooti (26.65%), Gopalbhog (22.67%) and Ashina (221.75%). The lowest incidence (12.95 %) was recorded in BARI Aam-4. In case of severity the highest severity (6.02%) was recorded from khirsapat followed by gooti (5.11%), BARI Aam-3 (3.83%) and the lowest severity (2.73%) was recorded from BARI Aam-2. After harvesting the highest incidence (65.28%) and severity (16.08) was recorded in Khirsapat followed by BARI Aam-3 (49.47% & 12.78 %) and Gooti (43.58 % & 10.63%). Among the fungicides the lowest disease severity (6.33%) as well as the highest disease reduction (84.92%) was recorded from friuts treated with Rovral 50 WP followed by Cabriotop (6.67% & 84.12%) and Bavistin DF (7.67% & 81.74 %).

  1. To find out the reaction of different mango varieties against the disease
  2. To find out the suitable fungicide to manage the disease

A field trial was conducted at the Regional Horticulture Research Station, Chapai Nawabganj to observe the reaction of different mango varieties to scab disease as well as to evaluate the performance of different fungicides against the disease. The investigation was performed from February to June, 2011. To observe varietals reaction data on disease incidence and severity were taken at the marble stage of fruits and at after harvest of fruits. Fungicidal spray was commenced on BARI Aam- 3 of 17 years old established mango orchard. Spray was started after fruit seting. In order to prevent flower damage by insect pests Ripcord @ 1 ml/litre was used before 15 days of flowering and was mixed with all the fungicides at first spray. The spray was continued before 25 days of harvesting of fruits at 15 days interval. Details of the fungicides including their doses are shown in table 62. At every spray schedule, control plants were sprayed with water. Randomly 60 plant were selected for each treatment. The development of scab was recorded following 0-5 scale developed by Mortuza et al. (2000). Percent disease index (PDI) was measured from percent fruit area covered by the disease. To evaluate the effectiveness of the fungicides, the severity of diseases was measured by calculating the percent disease index (PDI) according to the formula of Singh (1984):

The mango varieties showed differential response to scab of mango fruits  At marble stage of the fruits the incidences and severities were varied from 12.95% to 30.51% and 2.73% to 6.02% respectively. However, the highest disease incidence (30.51%) was recorded in Khirsapat followed by Gooti (26.65%), Gopalbhog (22.67%) and Ashina (21.75%). The lowest incidence (12.95 %) was recorded in BARI Aam-4. In case of severity the highest disease severity (6.02%) was recorded from khirsapat followed by Gooti (5.11%), BARI Aam-3 (3.83%) and the lowest disease severity (2.73%) was recorded from BARI Aam-2. After harvesting it was observed that among the varieties the highest disease incidence (65.28%) and severity (16.08%) was recorded in Khirsapat followed by BARI Aam-3 (49.47% & 12.78 %) and Gooti (43.58 % & 10.63%). On the other hand the lowest disease incidence (20.56%) and severity (5.11%) was recorded from Fazli variety. Effect of fungicides to management of the disease All fungicides significantly prevented the development of scab in mango fruits. None of the fungicides was able to control the disease completely. Among the fungicides the highest disease incidence (81.67%) was recorded from Sulcox 50 WP followed by Cupravit 50 WP (73.33%) and the lowest incidence (25 %%) was recorded from sprayed with Rovral 50 WP followed by Bavistin DF (28.33%) and Cabriotop (30 %). On the other hand, the lowest disease severity (6.33%) as well as the highest disease reduction (84.92%) was recorded from friuts treated with Rovral 50 WP compared to control followed by Cabriotop (6.67% & 84.12%) and Bavistin DF (7.67% & 81.74 %). The highest disease severity (23.67%) and lowest disease reduction (43.65%) was recorded in plants sprayed with Sulcox 50WP.
