Screening of Germplasm for Vegetable Type Jute.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment were carriedout at BJRI,Dhaka and JAES, Manikganj in 2008.Twenty lines were germinated but Acc-11/95-2(3.7gm/plant),Acc-4365(3.9g/plant),Acc-4366(3.6g/plant), Acc-4367(g/plant) and Acc-4368(4g/plant) gave high dry weight/plant.

Objectives:

1.To find out vegetable type of tossa jute(Corchorus Olitorius L.)

2.To find out bushy,high leave having type of tossa jute(Corchorus Olitorius L.)

Methodology:

Bangladesh Jute Research Institute has 6060 germplasms of jute(C.Olitorius and C.capsularies) and Kenaf and Mesta both indigenous and exotic origin.These germplasm materials have wider gene pool with different types of biotic and abiotic tolerance characters. Twenty germplasms(sl.no.1520-1534 and Acc-11/95-2,Acc-4365,Acc-4366, Acc-4367 and Acc-4368) were collected and grown at BJRI,Dhaka and JAES, Manikganj in 2008.The materials were sown in three meters lengh and two lines for each germplasm maintaining RCBD method. The experiment was repeated again after three month interval. Proper intercultural and agronomic practices were followed for raising the crop.Among the lines which having high leaves,bushy,dry weight,huge number in same place were identified as desirable type.The sown materials were harvested after 45 days of sowing.

Achievement/Findings:

Twenty lines were germinated but Acc-11/95-2(3.7gm/plant),Acc-43659(3.9g/plant),Acc-4366(3.6g/plant), Acc-4367(g/plant) and Acc-4368(4g/plant) gave high dry weight/plant.Among them Acc-4368(4g/plant) gave hightest dry weight.
